Hard to say. Tonight he had to sit for 10 minutes + 3 1/2 until play stopped. Didn't see exactly what happened but apparently they got in his head & held him to 1 point tonight.

My opinion, he's Platt X 2 if you want to reference former Otters.

Blessed with the softest yet quickest set of hands of any 2016 draft eligible, he continues to find ways to make up for the difference in size by identifying the correct time to shift gears and elude coverage. His release is devastatingly rapid, and can even wire off a shot if the pass is behind him or in his skates. DeBrincat may be small by hockey standards, but he’s a tenacious battler who will get into those tough areas around the cage, as well as throw a hit without deviating from his primary objective of scoring goals. He thinks the game at a very high level, and is the last guy you would catch taking a shift off.

All this kid's done is silence critics. They said he was too small for the NTDP despite being one of the better players at the Selects festival. They said he wasnt good enough for big time NCAA hockey, and had to settle with UMass. They said he wasn't good enough for the OHL and was overlooked in two straight Priority Selections. They said he was a product of McDavid and Strome.

At some point, people need to stop saying anything and just accept the fact that he's an elite player. He'll be in the NHL one day, just dont know in what kind of capacity.

Great report, very well said.

No doubt people will shy away from DeBrincat because of his size but he doesn't play like he's 5'7" at all. He may be the most aggressive player on the team when it comes to battles in the corner and in front of the net.

He will carve out a good AHL and then Euro career.

Nothing wrong with that either.
I wouldn't be that negative, personally. He's got an NHL game, super hard working and attacking style of play, I can see him being effective in the NHL in a similar way to guys like Gallagher and Marchand. Not gonna wow you with the crazy creative Gaudreau type plays, but he has really nice hands and hockey IQ, he's shifty and more skilled than he gets credit for, even if he does play a north/south game. I would definitely consider him with a late 1st round pick. If he was 3" taller we'd be talking about him being the next Parise, and although it's still really hard to make it in the NHL at his height, the game IS more friendly to small guys than it was in the clutch and grab era.

Also, is he actually still 5'7"? He's listed at that, and he does look small on the ice, but not TINY. I wouldn't be surprised if he's more like 5'8" - 5'9" at the official draft measurements.

He kind of looks like Sergei Samsonov in physical appearance. Maybe he can be a very effective NHLer in the same way? Very short but built like a tank and obviously blessed with smarts and skill.

I honestly thought he looked smaller than 5'7 when I seen him in the playoffs last year. Unless he's grown significantly since then I doubt he's anywhere near 5'9.

Hmm touche, just going off watching him on TV, where it's definitely harder to judge height than in person.

I think this is the jackpot of the draft. Not in that he will be better than alla top 10:ers, but to what value you get from an probable 25 pick at the moment. Size still mathers too much to GM:s and scouts, so much that I have an hard time seeing him going top 15 or 20. Add that he probably ain´t fully grown and still is already taller than Gerbe, Desharnais and as tall as Gionta. And just short of Cammalleri, D Roy, Ennis, Marchand, Hudler, Atkinson, Tootoo, Perreault and others. For that mather, just under newly Art Rosser St.Louis and a bit taller than Sullivan and Fleury, who both played before or after and during the DPE - where players actually where biggers and aloud to take more liberties.

About to drop below his skill level in the draft? Hey, hey Detroit - I´m looking at you... Would be fun to see him play with hightower Mantha in the future. Shades of Chara/Marchand pics :D

Would honestly love it if the Avs picked him up. Despite DeBrincat's size, I can easily see Roy loving his game. I'm excited to see DeBrincat's career progress.

3 goals + 2 assists tonight. 30 (20 goals) points in 14 games, tied for the lead league with Matthew Tkachuk.

Alex DeBrincat still pace for 100 goals this season, after 14 games
his ranking rises every month, already in top 25 in 2016 NHL draft rankings.

5 months ago,Alex didn't even have a ranking

Yeah people do have growth spurts, its very common,
for example Kasperi Kapanen was 5 foot 10-5 foot 11 few years ago,
now: 6 foot 1 (185 cm).

5 foot 8, 5 foot 9 would be my estimate too.

Is Robby Fabbri a good comparison?

Wouldn't mind it at all if Toronto grabbed him with the Pens pick. I'd be absolutely joyful if they got him with our 2nd. Has some great skills!

DeBrincat is in pace for 150-160 points (95-100 goals).

That's just INSANE. I haven't seen him save for some highlights, but he's got a ridiculous shot. How's his overall skating? Is he fast, quick on his feet, agile?I think size is one thing, but if you have great skating then teams forgive the size more. Still, if he keeps up that pace, how could you not take a chance on him?

Why do people care about his height? Your weight matters way more than your height in hockey. The difference between someone who is 5'8 rather than 5'11 is a lot smaller than someone who weighs 170lbs vs 190lbs.

Gaudreau, St. Louis, Gerbe, DD, Gallagher, Marchand, Tootoo, etc have shown that smaller guys can play in the NHL. The thing that all of these guys have in common besides height is their weight which is more than sufficient to play in the NHL.

The only thing height really effects is someone's reach imo. But how much more reach does someone who is 5'11 have vs. someone who is 5'8? I don't believe it's that significant.

As long as DeBrincat can play at a healthy weight for the NHL, there's no reason why he can't be a successful NHL player

Gaudreau weighs around 160-165 lbs.
