Rumor: Rutherford re-iterates that Canucks want picks or young players. Halak available?

Don't know if that get's it done but I'd take Boeser and Halak off your hands for something like Ty Smith + prospect + mid round pick.

The Devils desperatly need a shooter and a backup goalie since everyone we sign seems to get career ending injuries (Crawford and now Bernier). Blackwood needs to have a legit backup because his play has been pretty weak so far this year. As for Ty Smith, he's left handed and plays the left side with us but has played the right side his entire career in the WHL.

Flame away.
This is a good offer. I would consider it.

Canucks are what, 8-0-1 since Boudreau took over? Why change anything, at this point?

I loved Smith but he has had a ruling his go lately.

I’d rather aim for something around Boeser + Halak for Mercer.

If that’s off the table, then I would push for Holtz.

How is Miller getting 3 1st rounders? I'm confused...
If the picks are all high in the first, you bet he will. 8th in the NHL in scoring with next year under contract for 5.25 million. These aren’t top 10-20 picks. They would be like 25-32.

If Halak is available, Devils may get involved. They would probably be willing to toss in one of the bubble forward prospects like Boqvist or Studenic and a pick at this point.

I dont think Miller is going to be moved because that almost definitely means Horvat will want to be moved as well.

IMO its more likely that Petey, Hamonic, Poolman, Pearson, Dickinson, Halak, and possibly Boeser are moved or dangled as trade chips

they are looking at the bigger picture and trying to look long term a year or 2 down the road rather than in 5 months time. 8-0-1 doesn't represent the actual team, part of our success had to do with our goaltending, Hughes, Brock Boeser, Myers and some unbelievable jaw dropping clutch plays during this time. playing beyond their ability with timely wins. JR sees some strengths and he also knows the weaknesses of our team particularly not offense from the bottom line guys.

He can tell the difference between a weaker team that is on a hot streak, that has a few guys playing clutch and getting the team out of gutter vs an actually playoff contender or an actual dangerous contender that can be a threat. I don't see he sees us at that 2nd part yet although he really thinks likes Demko.

We are also still at the wait and see stage, and I"m sure he's getting calls from former friends and peers about our players. I also think he wants (through the Media) tell all the GM's what type of trade he is currently trying to make. He did say he needed a round a month or so to actually gauge and watch this team, all while trying to find fulfill the Assistant and GM jobs with our team which is currently his number 1 priority right now.

I dont think Miller is going to be moved

we move him, or he takes a hike end of 2023 when he becomes UFA which most Canucks fans don't think he's interested or at least wants to try the UFA. Horvat is more likely to stay as he is the captain of our team.

You have to think bigger picture.
Is Myers gonna play like a #2 Forever for bruce?
Is Schenn gonna play like a #4 forever for bruce?
Boeser, Miller, Hughes, are they all going to continue to light it up with the new system?
Will EP40 find his stride?, If he does? What then?

Sometimes you have to think long term, We can't afford all 3, We need to make a move.
We need to upgrade our Defense, Hughes can only carry so much, and Myers and schenn will fall off.

And OEL while playing alright sure has fallen off a cliff points wise. Man it is hard to see 13m in cap space tied up to 2 D men who barely contribute any offense...Put OEL on PP1 with Hughes and try to get him close to 50pts a year or something.

Not many teams have over 13m tied up in 2 D men who cant score...if they do, they will NOT be top teams in the league or teams going on a long playoff run

OEL leads the league in 5 vs 5 goals against with 500+ minutes played with 9 on the year. He’s obviously been asked to play a different role here and if it’s to shut down teams 5 on 5. He’s been one of, if not the best in the league at it.

Foligno was a pending UFA and didn't suck. Pearson and Poolman both have term and both suck.

Again, Benning got fired for handing out a ton of bad contracts and basically running the Canucks into the ground. Why would any of his bad contracts he handed out have any value? He did such a bad job that he got fired, but somehow the acquisitions he made and the contracts he handed out that greatly led to his firing still have value?
Foligno had 16 pts in 42 games last year when he was traded.
Pearson has 15 pts in 34 games this year.

Pearson has a a Corsi For % rel of 4.3 and a FF% Rel of 4.8 and an Exp. Goal +/- of 3.3
Foligno's numbers were 1.7/2.1 and -2

There are other advanced stats that show Pearson is having a good year.

Realistically, only the supplementary players (that are older than the core players) are likely available: Tanner Pearson, Jason Dickinson, Micheal Ferland, Alex Chiasson, Travis Hamonic, Tucker Poolman, Jaroslav Halak; and probably Oliver Ekman-Larsson & Tyler Myers if suitable replacements can be found?

It’s strange hearing Rutherford say he wants to acquire picks. I guess he learned after he left the Pens’ prospect pool in shambles.

I can see the Devils try to make a deal. Blackwood has been putrid and is fighting a nagging injury . Besides him we have no one that’s even a real NHL backup . It looks like they March him out there way more than they should. Halak would make some sense to get a veteran reliable backup. Bernier is probably out the rest of the season for the Devils.

Not really when you consider the ages of Crosby Malkin Letang vs Pettersson Hughes Horvat Boeser Demko

when you dont have cap space available you need to weaponize draft picks and the system in order to improve if your not in a win now mode.
