Rumor: Rutherford re-iterates that Canucks want picks or young players. Halak available?

The price for Miller retained and Halak is Marino+1st
Value is there, honestly, but we can't move a RD. Pettersson or Matheson, even Dumoulin yes, but not Marino. We have no RD depth to fill the hole.

And honestly, with Malkin coming back we don't need Miller. Next year, depending on how things shake out, might be different. For now though, no can do.

Anyone think GMJR wants Zucker again? He loves the guy. I'd send Zucker and Kapanen for Miller.

It’s strange hearing Rutherford say he wants to acquire picks. I guess he learned after he left the Pens’ prospect pool in shambles.

His goal in Pittsburgh was to win as many cups as possible, future be damned - and he did that.

Halak, what is the rules regarding how his performance bonus will be applied to the 2 teams should he get traded prior to achieving them with the first team but achieves them later with the second team?

due a $1.5 mill Bonus if he plays in 10 games with a 0.905 sv%. Currently at 7 appearances with 6 starts and his sv% exactly 0.905.

say he plays 9 with the Canucks and another 9 with team 2. So technically didn’t achieve the 10 games with 1 single team.

The full bonus would be applied to the acquiring team. Note: if Halak was traded in a Retained Salary Deal then Vancouver would also pick up a % of that bonus.

Yes. Which means if the Canucks want to trade him for maximum value they need to play him 2 more games and then they will have it on their cap next season. Looking on Capfriendly, the bonus for ten games is 1.25mil.

He also has a 250k bonus for a minimum .905 sv%. Thus wherever he ends up, that team will have a 250k cap hit next season for the bonus.

For clarity it only carries over to next season if the acquiring team is over the cap.

Realistically, only the supplementary players (that are older than the core players) are likely available: Tanner Pearson, Jason Dickinson, Micheal Ferland, Alex Chiasson, Travis Hamonic, Tucker Poolman, Jaroslav Halak; and probably Oliver Ekman-Larsson & Tyler Myers if suitable replacements can be found?
To deal Alex Chiasson just call up the Oilers and he'll be on that top powerplay before Rutherford hangs up the phone.

I'd take my prospect pool being in shambles if it came with Cups.

That's the problem the Canucks had under Gillis. They were constantly building with an eye towards the future that the present core got too old to compete - Hodgson and Schneider should have been traded for immediate help (J. Carter types), not young players (Horvat + Kassian) and maybe the Sedin core has a Cup.

Given where the Canucks are at. I'd trade Miller for PIT's 2022 1st + 2023 1st.

Rutherford should absolutely be trying to move Halak. Save yourself 1.5 million if you deal him before he plays 2 more games. Teams like the Oilers are desperate for someone who can save the puck.

you already bought Holtby, why not at least try and acquire an asset for the mess Benning created. Plus the Canucks can fill the spot with Martin or Deipetro.

would the Oilers do a 3rd?

You got two Cups out of it. The Canucks have a comparably poor prospect pool and have been one of the worst teams in the league. It could always be worse.

Not to mention, Canucks fans also know what happens when a regime sits plays too safe and doesn't ship out draft capital to propel your team to Cup victory. But at least we were able to draft Nicklas Jensen!

Wow, that's awfully generous. So the Canucks add cap ($8.7 this year, and $5.5 for Zucker and whatever Kap costs next season), and decrease production Zucker and Kap combined over the past 3 seasons have 267 games played and 122 points, over the same period of time Miller has 156 games played and 154 points. We replace a center with 2 wingers (not a need for Vancouver).

Who are the playoff/wildcard contending teams who aren't thrilled with their existing backups/goalie situations?
- Pittsburgh, Detroit, Florida?
Assuming this trade has to happen in short order in order to avoid the games played bonus, I'd hope the Canucks avoid trading within the division/conference; if I were a player, I'd consider the management meddling to be deflating re: the optics of trading a good roster player from my team to a competitor in the midst of an potentially-magical playoff push.

I dont think Miller is going to be moved because that almost definitely means Horvat will want to be moved as well.

IMO its more likely that Petey, Hamonic, Poolman, Pearson, Dickinson, Halak, and possibly Boeser are moved or dangled as trade chips

Not to be flippant, but why do people pretend that GMs are static robots?

The Canucks are in a very different situation than Pittsburgh who have basically been all in for about 15 years since they have two players that most franchises only have a chance at about once every hundred years (though for Pittsburgh it's a lot more common).

I could see Boeser for Debrusk + 1st + 3rd
Lolol. No you couldn't.

Nobody wants Debrusk. Someone will trade for him, and I expect he will rebound some. But he has been on the block for months and we're not even really getting substantial rumors. The idea that he and the 22nd-30th pick gets Boeser is not based in reality.

He probably does have the value of a second round pick. He would be a cheaper replacement where you hope he bounces back.

Not sure why penguins fans keep offering the same trash offers. Even after Rutherford said he is looking to get younger.
