Looks like he’ll be a lot better than the guy they drafted 5 th overall recently . So impressive and disappointing outcomes ; maybe they balance the scales
I think so
Like having great regular season players with terrible contracts
You have to take the good with the bad

Casey was producing at a high level individually offensively but despite that, was an ineffective player due to the fact that he was getting caved in in terms of on ice results.

So is Hutson
Was casey playing 22 tough minutes or was he sheltered? Also do you think that his 50 shooting percentage was sustainable?

Hutson is playing on what is currently the worst team in the league. You realize that right? He is a rookie. Is Luke a rookie?

He’s very talented. But he skates himself into trouble way too much. It’s nice on the eye but there is a reason very few defencemen play like that these days. The best D, like Q Hughes, use their speed to open up space from the back. They don’t skate into pressure and cause odd man rushes the other way.
Until this is coached out of him he’s going to be a net negative player 5 on 5.

The 1st and 3rd pairings on MTL both have better expected goals shares than the Hutson pairing.
Also, I wasn't the one to bring Luke into it.

But Luke had a 52.1% xGoals share as a rookie last year.

Quinn is also capable of recovering if he gets somewhat out of position because he is a truly elite skater

I'd bet Quinn was making all kinds of mistakes his first couple seasons.....

And Montreal's 5 on 5 goal share with Hutson on the ice is 13/14 as opposed to 17-33 with him off the ice.

Not to mention any methodology that denotes Matheson as the better defenseman is heavily flawed.

I really get the impression that he has free reign and no assigned role from msl

He’s basically being allowed to do whatever he wants out there which doesn’t mean he’s not learning while making mistakes

Surely this thread is just jest and not serious, right? Hutson is one of the only good player on the Habs. He's the best D in xG and he's on pace for 60 points while not playing the PP?
on pace for 30 even strength points unless you meant over two seasons.

You mean the play where he was in a perfect spot in the ozone right in front of the goalie with no one around and the other habs player decided to shoot and missed the net instead of passing him the puck that would have created a golden chance?

You're quoting somebody that doesn't watch hockey, instead spending their time staring at stats that never capture the full picture. Don't waste your time with that nonsense.

20 year old offensive D, playing 23 minutes a night in his rookie season. He's going to make mistakes on the defensive side of the game. And as a rookie he really isn't bad at all. He's been pretty good. Plus, he more than makes up for it on the offensive side.

As @Lafleurs Guy mentioned, I don't think i've even seen a playing style like his. He is incredibly deceptive and shifty. I never expect what he's going to do, and I have no idea how he manages to create space where there is absolutely none.

In theory, he should only get better as he adapts to the game.
what about the league adapting to his playing style?

Yup. Quinn had his growing pains, especially in his sophomore season which had a lot of Canucks fans ready to trade him.

Pretty much every D-man regardless of type or size is going to go through some struggles defensively early in their NHL career, especially if they haven't played any pro hockey before.

The point went right over your head didn't it?

Points for a dman don't matter if they are getting caved in.

Mailloux, Hutson, Casey, and Nemec have all gotten caved in this year.

Luke has not.
Yet on the eye test Luke seems to be the one who has struggled the most.

Learn the difference between « expected » and « reality »

He’s 20 years old with 17 NHL games experience. I know you’re hold enough to remember how Quinn was when he was 20 years.
