Very even period. Doan, Draper and Regehr have been huge down low and on the PK. Sakic and Iginla have been good, but Gagne was really dragging them down before the injury; for someone who's supposed to be the speed on that line, he was sure getting beaten to a lot of loose pucks. Thornton and Nash have had spurts of energy in-between long periods of suckitude, while Bertuzzi has been terrible. Redden, Foote and Pronger need to wake the hell up.

On Russia's side, Ovechkin has been a monster; he needs to remember that he has half-decent teammates now, though. Watch out if Russia gets the top line out there when Regehr isn't on the ice, because he and Brodeur have been the only ones keeping Kovalchuk from running amok. Nabokov is showing shades of the great goalie he was prior to this season.

Wow, a lot of love for Regehr.

Russia gives so much space to Canada on the on the penalty kill. If the color comentator's words turn out to be right in saying that special teams will decide this game then Russia is not looking good (Russia's powerplay has been ineffective throughout the tournament and they are not moving enough in this game too)

Your crazy, show where in the rules it says hipchecking is clipping. Hipchecking is hitting hip on hip (clean hit, oldschool).

IIHF rules. Poster above already showed it. Take a look. I'm not going to repost them.

Clean hit IMO. He was trying to take him out of the play but not trying to hurt him.

Too bad we had to lose one of our top performing players though. I've been hoping for Staal (yes over Spezza) to get a shot though so here's hoping he takes full advantage.

Dude I don't think you're going to find anyone objecting to the check but the intent is certainly there. Kasparitis is well known for injuring players with borderline hits, this was no different.

Now you're exagerating in the other direction. It clearly wasnt in the hip.

Can you read that before you post:
A player who delivers a check in a clipping manner or lowers his own body position to deliver a check on or below an opponents knees, shall be assessed a ...

"on or below an opponents knees"

Oh ok, Last time i checked this isn't basketball.

We are playing a contact sport called hockey and hip checks are ::GASP:: LEGAL.

I was correcting him on saying it was knee on knee. If the hip check was at the knee level or lower, it was illegal. It wasn't called, now lets move on shall we.

Pat Quinn joins the penalty parade with a bench minor. Bertuzzi serving.

Quinn was apparently harrassing the referee, and that is why Canada got the penalty.
