I don't think you want Hoffman's crazy sidekick stuck in Edmonton with nothing but time on their hands.

EDM 1st 2019 unprotected + Spooner for Mark Stone

Is about what I expect, but I think Stone could throw a wrench in that by refusing to sign an extension.

If they can get him to agree, I think they re-sign Stone at $8.7 million (Oiler tax) x 8 years.

To be honest I don't like Stone's game all that much. Good shot but not a lot of speed or puck skill.

That's what I suspect the Oilers will do though. You have two dumb GMs in Chiarelli and Dorion that desperately need to save face.

Ottawa gets a 1st rounder that could even win the draft lottery to sell to their fans, Chiarelli gets a winger after he's gutted the forward group for the better part of 4 years to try and save whatever is left of his career.

If they cannot get an assurance to re-sign from Stone, they will try Hoffman from Florida as plan B for the same price (a massive overpay relative to what they could've gotten him for just a few months ago). It's all very Chia.
I do. Great vision and IQ, one of the smartest players in the league. That's why I don't think his game will drop off much when he gets older. He doesn't rely on speed, which will inevitably get worse as he ages.

I would love that deal.

Florida saves $2M in actual salary next year and $1M the years after on that trade. So financial incentive to swap underperforming guys. Allows us to use a centre as a winger full time.

Benning I traded anywhere and I think he is a moveable piece. Spooner was bought out. Manning buried in the minors. Sekera on the roster but hopefully on the LTIR for extra breathing room.

JT Miller for Yamo + 2nd 2019 (we may need to add a Bear/Samaroukov type prospect)

Sign:
Silfverberg 6 x 4.95M
Smith Pelley 2 x 1.25M
McElhinney 2 x 1.35M

I would fully expect that this team is a bubble team next year with these moves but probably misses the playoffs. Long term outlook is Gryba, Kassian, Brodziak are off the books after next year. We hopefully have Benson, Mcleod, Marody, 1st 2019 pushing for spot to fill the gaps. Sekera if injured does not need a buyout but if he is not we should think about buying him out this offseason as we have to think about protection for the expansion draft.

Didn't notice that Hunt was dealt until just now. Guy really is just being used as a PP specialist, but he was decent at it.

Always liked him, good to see him at 30 still finding a way to stay in the NHL

I think it's possible that some teams in Russia could start throwing some offers in. It's also possible that this team surges once Klefbom returns and the team makes the playoffs with Koskinen as their clear starter. I think that there are a very limited number of starter caliber goaltenders in the NHL and the ones that are available in the summer get scooped up quickly.

Define "starter caliber."

Yep. 15 less teams than I expected, and trade instead of movement is always good.

As much as people love to crap on him, he does some decent deals, even though people don't seem to understand it. I mean, I remember people were good with Kassian at 1.9M for 3 years and said that would be a steal, but because he hasn't played a whole lot, people crap on Chia for signing him to that. Majority of the time, these deals looked good at some point in time, but it's up to the players to play to it's potential. Personally, the WORST signing I've seen in the last 6 years would have to be the Nikitin signing. THAT one was ridiculous.
