Funny thing about GMs...when they lose their minds and have a bad year, things can really go off the rails. Chevy seems like he's having one of those offseason this summer.

He is having a historically bad off season. Let Trouba go for the draft pick they traded for Hayes and a 6/7 D man who is now apparently worth 3 mil per. Let Chariot walk. Let Myers walk.

He should have kept Trouba for the 1 year arbitration award and moved him at the deadline for what I think would have been far more knowing that he was losing Myers and Chariot.

He’s now down 3 D with an aging and oft injured Byfuglien as their number 1 and it sounds like thinks are going this side of terrible with Laine and Connor.

With Chicago looking improved, Colorado and Dallas loading up, Nashville adding Duchesne and the Blues probably starting a lot better than last years start Winnipeg may be falling heavily this season.

and Pionk is still young.... so he has time. Why judge him now? Give him time

I dont disagree he may improve in time but I don’t think he warrants 3m per just yet. Potential is paid for more sure things over longer term. This seems like more of a bridge deal to me. I think Chevy is a bit desperate after seeing half his D corps flee and his top 2 goal scorers holding out for big payouts and a bottom 6er in Copp taking them to arbitration today. It just seems like a panic overpay, something that Chiarelli became known for.

So, exactly like Pionk
Pionk is a rookie. This was his first full nhl season and he thrust into a top 4 role on a terrible exactly like how we screwed up Justin Schultz yes. Winnipeg will put him in a position to succeed and he will.

They may need to play him in a top 4 role or higher if Buff gets his usual injuries. That may spell disaster considering their D corps will be very very young in a very tough division. They seem to be pulling an Oiler here and expecting bigger things from newer players setting them up for failure rather than success.

This where you see if you can sucker them into taking Russell for a good F. Need the cap space and have lots of wings. Holland make it happen!

There’s no scenario in Winnipeg that puts him in as bad of a spot as he just was with NY.

They wanted nothing to do with Lucic less then a week ago and laughed at the oilers for being stuck with him.....now he’s apparently very serviceable.
It's been great entertainment reading all their replies. And the bumped threads(that surprise surprise got shut down quick).

First full season, yes. Rookie, no.

It will be interesting to see how he does. I wouldn’t be surprised if he maxes out at consistently average.

Welcome to HF, last week Lucic was the worst contract in the NHL and no team would take him without 3+ firsts and a bad contract coming back because he was the worst player in the NHL hands down.
Suddenly now that same player is going to bounce back away from that toxic Edmonton

Same way when Pulju is traded he will again be a 21 YO top prospect, where as right now he’s a busted prospect who will never play an NHL game and holds the value of a late round pick

Why is anyone laughing at the Pionk signing? That’s a young solid 2nd pair D man with upside. I’d take that deal all day.
i can tell that alot of people have never seen pionk play..........hes kris russel without blocking shots

The Jokiharju for A. Nylander trade has inspired me to look at young D from other teams.

I wonder... would the Avalanche be open to a JP for Timmins trade? I'd even do a small add, like a 4th rounder or the rights to Marino/Berglund. He missed all of last season due to a head injury. Prior to his injury, I felt he definitely had top 4 upside. I'd be willing to trade for him and make that bet.

The Oilers should be looking at Honka from Dallas. Seem slike hes not going to get much of a shot there and could be a change of scenery player

Hes a RHD, former 1st round pick and had some pretty good AHL seasons. Even in the NHL, his underlying numbers were pretty solid. Hed be a great candidate to bring in to put on the bottom pairing and see if he can reach his potential

Try to get him for Benning + something, so they get an NHL RHD as a replacement.

Calgary Flame Advanced Stats guys are touting Looch as a superstar. :DD Can’t wait to see how it turns out for them.

No they arent lol. The bastardization of analytics is hilarious. They are showing Lucic was slightly better when it comes to possession stats than Neal was. It was one specific category. It is also very true Neal has poor possession metrics

How that got twisted into "Lucic has great analytics" is hilarious

Thatd be great. Although I think they dont have roomf or a young RHD. Itd have to be some sort of pick/prospects arrangement

IF (big if) we were to deal JP for another struggling prospect with upside, hed be an interesting candidate
