That’s my point, JP could have signed in EDM then could have been loaned, exactly like Broberg, exactly like Berglund, exactly like Niemalinen. But he didn’t, don’t you think it’s odd that he’s the ONLY prospect to just not sign a deal and be loaned? All of his quotes are the same in all the articles, “never say never” etc.. To me that’s Holland giving him a script till they deal him. Because they have zero leverage if he keeps blasting EDM with his agent.

Look at a RW depth signed for next season

Kassian
Yamamoto
Archibald
Chiasson

Who sits next season so JP can play third line? Not the guy you just gave a long term deal in Kassian, not the young player who just had a breakout season, not arguably your best PK FWD, not your net front PP 2.25M dollar player.

Stauffer even pointed out exactly that and said he doesn’t see JP coming back on his radio show a couple weeks back, an odd thing to hear from a team employee
I dunno how exactly things are working with the COVID rules and the late season, but the big reasoning for this is that since Pulju has already played out his ELC he’s no longer waiver exempt. If he’s signed with the Oilers for them to assign him anywhere that’s not the NHL he’d have to clear waivers first, and he wouldn’t make it past Detroit if he was put on there. So if he’s going to come back they’ll wait until the official offseason/close to training camp to sign him.

idk, we could always sign him and then if he's no good, we trade him for whatever we can get. That arrangement is also a good way to convince him to come back. Assure him that we don't want him to sit in the press box all year. He's either playing, or he's out of here.

New thread so I'll post again that Haula would be a good 3rd line center option. Plus if the Oilers grab Vatanen too both of them can act as comforting Finnish veterans to welcome Puljujarvi back to the dressing room.
Haula is probably the top free agent I’d like to see Holland go after this offseason. Solid all around game, good in the face off circle, has a history of success with Neal and could be a vet to help ease Pulju back in if he comes back as well. A Neal-Haula-Pulju line as an offensive third line could have a lot of success imo.

Oh yeah for sure, I was just more pointing out why he hasn’t been signed already to the OP. It’s got nothing to do with him not wanting to be here, they just can’t loan him out once he’s signed so that’s why he’s not.

I approve of all these moves, but Fabbri is not a center. I still like him as a winger though.[/QUOTE]
He went on record after the season requesting a move back to center, so I tried him at 3 c with some offensive players to give him a shot before stapling him to his buddy Mcdavids wing.

I'd say...

Moreau - Marchant - Grier

That was an awesome 3rd line!

Edit:

And forever ago.. ;(

That is the line that I was thinking of emulating. Except I would prefer a big 3C as well. Basically a line that can beat you with speed, skill or by running you over. Basically the kind of lines that used to give Hall-RNH-Eberle fits.

Maybe a bit more recently

Torres-Peca-Pisani

Forgot about that line, was together only for the one year but Torres and Peca could really throw their weight around.

What kind of coin could we sign both for? I assume that we would have to dump Larssons salary to make it work. Who do we move on from to sign Haula?

That seems like a pretty solid deal for us isn’t it?

a top line RW signed for 4 more years through his prime at under 7m a year, for a dman who’s not good enough to play top pairing but seems likely to price himself off the team as a number 4?

I'm sure TO would ask for Nurse for Nylander, but that is a non-starter for us, and would be severely over-valuing what a 55-60 point, one-dimensional, winger would bring back. Top-4 dmen have more value than 2nd line wingers though. Nylander is essentially what Eberle was in his mid-20s.

I'm down for that. Although buyer beware on Vatanen. The guy is glass like Klefbom and Larsson.

Why does Minnesota do that trade? And if they do why wouldnt we pair Brodin with Klefbom? Beaulieu would be a 3rd pairing guy IMO.

Suter-Spurgeon
Nurse-Dumba

Looks pretty good.

Why does Klfa need to pair with Brodin? They can be roomies off the ice if they want.

As for Beaulieu, i couldnt find another LD with a B.

He would just be a placeholder til Broberg and Berglund are.ready.

Nurse would be their third best LHD so that's probably a non starter for them.

Edmonton would be lucky to trade Nurse for William Nylander especially considering where both players are contract wise.

A question to many posters I've seen now:

How do you expect to sign Alex Pietrangelo?

Sounds pretty impossible to me.

Everyone knew it was when it happened.

Plenty of people defended it then and now, they were wrong.

How do you give a guy like Kassian that type of deal after he completely disappeared after the last contract extension he signed.

Seems like a failure of the people who were here before for not warning Holland. This is a player they should've dealt or been willing to walk away from, with or without the cap rising.

I'm not so sure about Haula. Obviously he's talented it, but it seems strange to me how many times he's been dealt.

Feels like a red flag.
