We should be able to outbid Winnipeg for Hamonic if it comes down to picks, no way they give up #2.

#4 for Hamonic is a pretty steep price but at least the prospect would go out east.

Don't know how the Oilers would then get Vatanen though. I think the pick is the best shot to get him and the Oilers absolutely have to get a puckmover.

A combination of Eberle, Pouliot, Yakupov can get us Vatanen and another player from Anaheim.

I apologize if this sucks, but would you guys do this:

To Ottawa:
4th overall

To Edmonton:
Hamonic
42nd overall (via Ottawa)
2017 2nd (via Ottawa)

To Islanders:
12th overall

Value wise pretty good, I would probably do it if we have another deal for a OFD like Eberle for Vatanen for example.

As I said in the other thread, Anaheim can't take on much salary so that's not feasible. I think the only shot the Oilers have is the pick or if Anaheim really likes Yak.

Ultimately, I think Detroit probably has the inside track with lots of attractive young, fairly cheap forwards.

I don't think you'll get the 9th back.

Honestly I don't mind the overpay, to get a team to move a guy whom they don't have to move is going to require one. I've got no issue overpaying to put this team in a better spot overall.

The Oil are set in terms of young elite talent, they need an elite defenceman and then cheap role players to balance the cap.

I think there's enough saavy in Chiarelli that he can get it back. Even you feel that it's an overpay, right? So if we can see it, surely Chiarelli can. Hopefully he will not get put over a barrel in any trade involving #4 and assets coming back. I still have a little faith at least. Besides, you cannot mortgage the future to win now without having talent pushing up to support McDavid; even he cannot carry this sadsack team into the playoffs on his own.

Well, this'll be a test for Chia. If he drafts at 4 I'll consider it a failure, unless he has already acquired 2 NHL d-men in separate trades that don't involve the pick.

yup, I'd rather pay up more than we might have to rather than come up empty. Just get Hamonic and forget about what the proper value is!

Hamonic is not good enough. We would still have the worst scoring D in the NHL with him.

I'd offer sheet one of Seth Jones or Sami Vatanen and just keep Dubois. IMO he's going to be a stud.

I want something more than Hamonic for 4th overall.

we're talking about the #1 D man on a team that is in the 2nd round. We also shouldn't even be at this drafting position now, and probably wouldn't be if it weren't for our crazy amount of injuries this season. This 4th overall is the perfect trade chip. Chiarelli can try to squeeze more value out of this deal, but this is a good base for a deal

#4 for Hamonic improves the Oilers big time. Who cares about overpay (it might be slightly but oh well).

Think about last years team a little healthier and with a legit top pairing guy in Hamonic and with Klef coming back. And for Vatanen we can move lottery protected 2017 1st. Move Yak for gritty 3rd liner. Just a couple moves improves the team a lot. And all those moves are doable

Yeah, can't afford to be picky even if it's an overpay. The Oilers need a puckmover first and foremost but Hamonic would be a big add, the top pairing minute muncher that the Oilers need and still young enough to grow his offensive game a bit, he has some untapped offensive potential. Not to mention that steal of a salary for the next 4 years. Having him and Klefbom for $8M combined for the next 4 years would be huge going forward.

If this is possible, I go this route. Keep the cheap non-protection pick, and move out salary.

Keep the pick Chia.

edit to add: I think the cap crunch and expansion will make a lot of teams ask for our picks. But we have valuable pieces to move so I hope Chia stays firm that it is contract/player for contract/player.

I don't think Vatanen is either though. Should be able to get that done without the 4th.

Neither are worth this 4th, to be honest I would not be surprised at all if Dubois is better than Puljujarvi and Laine, he has all the skill, skates great, big size, but can also play center and is more physical than either one. He could be like a Ryan Johansen type player.

I wouldn't stop at Hamonic. I want a minimum of 2 Dmen, preferably 3.

Vatanen vs Hamonic is a false dichotomy, really.

The Oilers need 2 D. At least one who can eat minutes, and at least one who can make an outlet pass. Preferably 2 that can do both, but that's not going to happen.
