I think Hyman is a better fit than Hall but the term scares me on this contract.

Not really sure theres anyone in UFA worth breaking the bank on, other than Hamilton and I doubt hes even considering Edmonton.

Yeh they could. But let’s not excuse Holland like he literally couldn’t do anything about it. In making a pitch, in selling the dream, in negotiating, there are GMs that can get the job done. There are GMs that can’t.

Here’s a question for you and maybe this will help you understand where I’m coming from so I don’t need to keep repeating my unpopular opinion here.

IF Holland signs a good player at a good contract, do we praise him? Yes. So if he can’t do that, why is the opposite not true? It’s simple, praise for a job well done and criticism for an inability to do that job.

Sounds like someone is upset that GMs don’t operate like they do in NHL 21

The 5 stages of grief:

1. Denial -
There's NO WAY Holland has offered Hyman 8 years. All these reporters are idiots!

2. Anger - Did Holland seriously sign Hyman to a 5 million x 8 year contract? That contract is going to age like shit.

3. Bargaining - Okay well at least McDavid has a legit top 6 winger now.. and RNH can play with Draisaitl on the second line.

4. Depression - Why the f*** am I an Oilers fan. If players don't want to play here why should I continue to support this team?

5. Acceptance - f*** it I can't quit this team.

6. Anger again - if you don't love the Zach Hyman contract then f*** you, Ken Holland is a genius, just wait til you see what he does with more cap space once we get out from under the Zach Hyman contract

I added a step :)

IF this is true and it's a big IF considering the sources, 8 years for Hyman AND giving up an asset in a sign and trade?

This is entering a Chia level bad offseason already, if true. And I happen to like Hyman more than most.

“Suddenly”?
Seems like it was a few weeks in the making and that Holland knew for a while that Larsson wouldn’t be signing.

Seems like... That's speculation.

Nah, if we knew before we were letting him walk why wait until Saturday to let team's talk to him?

Is there any big event that happened just before Saturday which could have changed the course of discussions?

I domt care what anyone says anymore, of the oilers loose larrsson, deal for Keith amd sign Hyman to an 8 year deal In a weeks time Kevin lowe is still running this team behind closed doors. There is no other excuse any more. We have gone thru 4 or 5 gms since Lowe and have continued to make seriously braindead moves that put us a step backwards

Not any one that would make an ounce of sense.

but if you want to invent one so that you can project anger about an unrelated event no one can stop you.

Not sure why at the start of the offseaosn people were optimistically saying "Cant say its a bad offseason, need to wait till it all plays out". With Holland I took that comment in completely the opposite way. That is a scary thing to think about. Holland had the cap space to make some truly terrible moves and seems to be taking full advantage

I don't really buy the sign and trade part, sounds like typical Leaf fanbase pandering done by their media to make the story relevant to Leafs fans there.

Same thing is done with every UFA, the Leafs can literally have negative cap room and every story is "Hamilton is rumoured to be interested in Toronto, city 2, city 3" etc. etc.

Like clockwork.

Larsson was a rumor too, until it wasn't.

Keith was a rumor too, until it wasn't.

There are more rumors than trades, and you're going to drive yourself batty thinking like this.

Go ahead, I'll just think you're being a fatalist.

This, of course, is utter horseshit and shows a fundamental misunderstanding of how the NHL works, not to mention the complete ignorance of the players’ feelings.
Yes players can sign anywhere. At the end of the day, a GM is judged based on the deals he makes and the team he builds. Holland has shown an inability to as such and should be judged accordingly.
