I guess there's 2 ways to look at it -- Stone may tell teams he's not interested in talking resign or extensions til after the season is over. This may give teams the impression that he's not interested in resigning with them--therefore they back off, and Dorion wants everybody in play, to get the best offer.

No team then is going to pay for that. They will simply treat it as a rental and offer accordingly.

I want stone I just dont see where the hell he fits. Our first 3 lines are basically cemented for wingers. We going play him on our 4th?

I think they'd drop Connor or Laine to the 4th line, and place Stone on the 1st or second line.

If we were able to trade for Stone, do we have the horses to knock off Tampa in a 7 game series ?? What do you posters think ?? Would we have enough ??

Me... I don't think anyone is beating Tampa... caveat... unless they suffer a key injury.

Last year we finished 2nd in the league 3 points back. This season Tampa right now has a 15 point lead over the team in 2nd. They own the league...no one else is close.

They also have a +81 goal diff. The next best team is +44 goal diff. The Jets for comparison are +28.

Jeez , that is depressing. With talk like that, we might just as well cancel the rest of the season and just hand Tampa the cup.

And last year the 6th best team in the league won with one of the worst goal diffs that made the playoffs. So...

It's possible as the playoffs are a different animal. The Caps beat them last year, with sure determination and grit. They are basically the same team, and they were defeated last year. You'd have to have exceptionally good Goaltending to do this.

I think it can be done -- but the numbers you cite do not lie, they are an extremely good team, and it will take a monumental effort to beat them. That Yzerman built a monster there.

They will have lots of cap space. Like $34 million in cap space with an $83 million cap. $8.5 - 9 million for Stone; $4.5 - $5.5 million for Dzingel. I expect at least one of those 2 to remain with Panarin all but certain to be signing with another team in the off season. Outside of that, they only have one major RFA in Werenski...probably either a bridge or a long term signing at $6.5 - $7.5 million.

I didn't talk about cap - I just feel it's unlikely that they're going to sign *all* those FAs - they're going to have to go hunting to stock up on roster players again. It won't be simple.

And the prospects they've given up for these players? They're going to have to mine trades in order to get something back for the next few years, or they're just kicking cap issues down the road.

What concerns me is Chevy's rumoured initial offer for Stone was a 1st, Petan and Stanley.
It will be a really late first (last overall perhaps?) and Stanley...[mod] lets go for it! I'm a Sens Fan, but the Jets are my team in the west. Stone is a difference maker, a true leader, a play maker, clutch scorer and last but not least...he's a local boy! If the Jets don't pull the trigger on Mark Stone they will sorely regret it, especially if Nashville or the Flames end up with him.

Time to [go for it]..we've got the prospect depth. Sacrificing some of that depth to go for it now is what it takes to win a cup. Also, who knows...we could even sign Stone here in the offseason and trade someone like N. Ejlers and M. Perreault and get some draft/prospect capital back that way.

It's a bold move cotton, let's see if it pays off for him.

As a Sens fan with Jets leanings, what is a fair deal for Stone in your opinion?

Strange strategy by Dorion. Other teams would offer the Sens more if they can sign these guys to extensions.
As a Sens fan...Pierre Dorion is a big frigen idiot. We were joking on the Sens board saying that the Dzingel trade might just be Dorion's greatest trade yet..that is a sad thought. If I'm Chevy, I'm trading for Stone, because Dorion couldn't pull of a solid deal if he tried too. I mean look at the E. Karlsson trade. The Sharks got him for peanuts and if they traded for Karlsson today, they would probably double what Dorion got for him.

Great post, and I totally agree, as this is the Jet's window of opportunity to win the Stanley Cup. It's not going to hurt us to give up a prospect like Vesalainen to the Sens, as we have "plenty" of depth left. ( or another one)

Chevy always likes to somewhat beat the other GM and make him look bad, and win at the trade. The problem is that "winning" that way, is not always possible. There are other teams interested in Stone as well, and they will up their offer slightly, and we'll lose for being to stingy.I'm generally happy that Chevy is that way, but in this case it's time to go all in, and go for it.

Chevy should pull the "trigger" now and close this deal, and bring Stone to the Jets.

As a fan of both the Sens and Jets a fair deal IMO is the following:

Jets trade = 2019 1st, Roslovic, 2020 2nd: conditional (2020 1st if Jet's win the Stanley Cup finals or Mark Stone signs with the Jets.), N. Petan (What the heck...we don't need him)

Sens trade = M. Stone

I don't know about Roslovic, but I would include Vesalainen, and then "deal done"

Was wondering what people think of this idea if the Jets trade away this year's 1st round pick (to get Stone for example)

To EDM:

Petan, 3rd round pick

To WPG:

2nd round pick

The rational of this trade is that the 1st rounder the Jets would give away this year would be around pick 25-30. The 2nd round pick coming from EDM would likely be around # 32-36. Essentially getting this pick would mitigate losing our 1st this year and it would almost feel like getting our late 1st round pick back.

Edit: Sweetener by adding Comrie going to EDM.

Petan has little to no value
