Yep, but if the Jets give up on Rosie as a Center but another team wants to try him at Center he might have more trade value.

i think that's tough to quantify and i don't know if an acquiring GM would intentionally inflate a player's value that he is trying to receive like that.

With what cap space do we retain guys like Staal, Duchene, or Murray?
good point... Murray is an RFA after this year though and it ultimately depends on what happens with Trouba. I don't think the Jets should compete in the UFA bidding war for Duchene's services. I like Staal as a straight-up rental but don't think id like to get in a bidding war for a C turning 35 with lots of miles on that body.

I like Erik Gustafsson the most from Chi. 1.2M for next year as well. Maybe Chevy can get an old employee's discount from the Hawks

Staal is to old to give up assets for. He's a guy you could chase in FA if you have the cap space but giving up futures for a 35 year old is a waste. I'm not sure I want Duchene given what I've heard about him, his value will surely increase playing with Laine as well and he'd command a handsome return in a trade. Murray wouldn't be hard to retain, I'd imagine you could lock him up long term for around $4-4.5 if he showed well. We'd likely have to make some moves but it's not impossible.

Isn't that what happened with Drouin? When Montreal traded for him, they traded for him thinking he could play center. Therefore, they were more willing to give up a top D and a higher value than if they were trading for Drouin the winger.

Having a guy like Murray gives you more flexibility if Trouba plays hardball. If Trouba is only willing to sign for a huge overpayment, you are in a better negotiating position if you can point out that you already have another top 4 D and therefore are not as desperate for his services.

and that backfired last year on MTL when Drouin was terrible at C.

So they traded more for a player who they thought could play a specific position. Maybe MTL could've given less if they had not let it be known they valued him as a C? I don't know, seems a bit backwards to me. I don't think a GM should show all their cards like that when discussing transactions or they could end up overpaying for a player who can't fulfill the position they covet.

Nevertheless, I don't think CBJ trades Murray during the season.

why does Brandon Pirri never stick to the big club?

AFAIK tends to score quite a few goals but is just an opportunist. Doesn't contribute much to creating them. And doesn't do anything else.

Just the impression I've got by reading about him for a few years. Not based on much actual observation. Take it FWIW.

I agree it's unlikely. Just pointing to precedent where it shows it is possible.

yea but we're talking about Bergevin who, prior to this offseason, had been laughably bad
I have no clue who the Blue Jackets GM is. That said maybe Rosie can play center he hasn't exactly been played with skill guys and I'm not ready to give up on him yet.

they're pretty good at RW with Atkinson, Anderson and Bjorkstrand. Their best prospect i believe is also a Winger (Abramov but am ignorant of their current system so could be wrong)

Soooo ..... we don't tell them he isn't a C?

I haven't liked the look of Murray. Drafted very high and just not doing much. He is apparently much better this year. Finally arriving as a 2nd pair D. Still 1 more year of RFA, arb eligible.

If they would be interested in Roslovic, it might be worth doing. Worth considering anyway.

I would prefer Gus to Murray. 1 more year at 1.2, then UFA. So UFA at the same time as Murray. Cheaper until then. But what would Chi want?

Murray has missed lots of times with injuries. He is healthy this year and playing much better. I'd love to see him in a Jets' uni for the next 7 or so years.
Roslo for Murray straight up.

injuries really derailed his career early on. CBJ fans have held him in higher regard this season citing him just behind Jones for D rankings this year

probably a 1st or 2nd+good Fwd prospect at the TDL from what I can tell in his thread on the trade boards

But of course, as pointed out, CBJ won't be in sell mode. If anything they will be buying and going for it.

Considering how beneficial #25 Stastny was to the Jets push in the last playoffs, I would like to see Alexander Steen come into the roster and make a legitimate push for the cup, as he is near the end of his long career and his team is looking for changes/and cap space. Also taking on his father's heritage uniform and number will undoubtedly make Steen a player born with personal inspiration the likes of which the NHL free agency has never seen before.
