I think I'd give the Wild more credit for that.

Stuff like goals saved above average wasn't talked about back then, but if you go back and look now, he was an incredibly average goalie playing behind an absolutely elite chance limiting team.
Does that mean Skinner would look like Carey Price if he played on the Wild?

I just dont think they need to go big game hunting on defense. Don't get me wrong, if there is another Ekholm secretly available, do it.

But bringing in another Kulak type, a 1B goalie to challenge Stu, and a Toffoli type forward or strong 3C would go a long way in the cup run this year.

Nah, you stretch out his recovery so he's fully healed for the playoffs

He hasn't even learned to play well within the system yet. He was getting it together, but I don't think he will be that valuable in the playoffs if he doesn't play extensively with the Oilers during the regular season.

?? Arvidsson is fine, absolutely fine. If he's banged up, just let him heal and use the LTIR, it just makes sense.

I sincerely have no idea (but the system though) what you are talking about. He was playing top-6 minutes in all situation and on both special teams, he's fine.

That’s not how that works.
I mean it basically is, there's just a dog and pony show that makes it legit.

He's been out "hurt" for over 10 games, seems easily do able there just needs to be a "diagnosis" of something.

Like I would rather he play, but here we are, take advantage of it.

Final Edit: He has a history of injury, so LTIR is not out of the ordinary.

There wasn't any real competition for those minutes since all of the wingers were playing poorly. My point is that he is pretty unlikely to play well if he doesn't play himself into form and build chemistry with the team before the playoffs. You can't just get a new acquisition, have him injured at the start of the year, and plop him into the lineup for playoffs and expect him to play like he did for LA.

Just in general, I don’t mind the activity level we are seeing from JJ/Bowman. He’s making lots of bets and we don’t know how they will pay off yet. But atleast he isn’t afraid to pick up the phone.
How do we know that though? Only thing I've heard about him so far is us scouting Columbus and then the NYR and this Fowler thing.

I'm fine with a delayed reaction. We need a move but we don't need to rush it. If the deadline passes and we get nothing but excuses then the knives will be out. But, it's not like they haven't delivered some good moves before so I'm choosing to be optimistic about it

He’s done a lot of little moves here and there that I don’t think Holland puts the effort into.

Squeezing extra picks in that offersheet situation
Dumping ceci for emberson
Picking up a 1st rd prospect x 3 (Podz/Perrault/Savoie)
Trading into the 1st rd (o Reilly)

At the very least, it’s not inactivity. And he’s only been on the job what? 3 months? And there’s still the TDL for when he makes the big finishing touch move on this roster.

He didnt trade into the first round he just swapped it for another first round pick that could wind up being better if they dont make the cup finals again which ultimately was a dumb move.

I don’t agree. If oilers management really liked the player then you grab him. It’s what they are paid to do.

Calling it a dumb move before it plays out is dumb.

They traded into this years 1st to get a prospect they really liked. Shows conviction in their beleifs. No way to know if it works out until Sam develops.

Well his current season isnt trending in their favor and youre talking about trading a pick that only evens out if the team makes it to the finals again. Oreilly is essentially a second round pick and we all know how great this organization is with picking players outside the first round.

Not a huge CHL guy, others can chime in. But pretty sure his season has been fine considering usage.

Hard to argue that the team hasn't been better without Arvid taking up a spot falling down all over the ice. I figured back problems and resulting balance problems. Disc problems are well. Couldn't imagine playing hockey with them. Arvid gets belted out there now. When he was in prime he could evade a lot of hits and was an evasive skater. he sure isn't now. With the Oilers the easiest way to get the puck off line 2 is just pummel Arvid and take the puck. He wasn't going to be surviving those hits for long.

Said before the season started that a player with two back surgeries should start thinking about retirement but then the Oilers backed in the loomis truck with 8M. Dumb contract.

The difference in a generic 20th-25th pick and the 32nd in terms of what you get is pretty minimal. Now the 20th pick probably has marginally more trade value but if you are going to make the pick it's pretty much a wash. Frankly, there is a very good chance that O'Reilly helps out the team earlier than a mid 20's pick in this draft. He has a mature game that could allow him to start in the bottom six relatively soon if he continues to progress.

So how great are we picking outside the first? I'd say pretty good. Messier, Anderson, Desharnais, Marino, bear, slepyshev, Brandon Davidson, Skinner, kesselring, maxin berezkin (looks legit), jj khaira, Anton lander, haartikainen, omark, petry, brodziak, markkanen, Matt Greene, chimera, Marchant, poti, pisani, moreau, Satan, beranek, buchberger.

We actually did very well outside the first. A lot of these guys carved out a decent hockey career.

We had a line that carried us to the finals with Stoll, Pisani, Moreau, pisani scoring clutch goals.

Honestly if it’s between Fowler and Matheson… I’d probably go with Matheson.
Same.

But disappointed it looks like we’re once again going to be Square Pegging into a Round Hole with a LD when we all know we need a natural RD.
