Some part of me wants to see Stuart Skinner traded so that all of us can actually see how valuable he is to Edmonton and how good he actually is.

Just like Dubnyk was

Or you know he could stop f***ing around and start the season on Oct. 4th instead of Dec. 4th like most other goalies do and "prove it" here. What's stopping him? The team defense and structure here has been solid for a year+ now.

Lol and below 900 3 out of 5 games against one of the leagues worst offences.
Could pick out so many of those sub .900 games from $5M+ goalies too in the playoffs. $10M Bob has a nice collection of them.

At 2.6M we shouldn’t be expecting anything near perfection. We budgeted for good enough cause of the Campbell F up, that’s what we got. Actually considering the extensions we are seeing in the Goalie market, we are budgeting for below average starter level, and Stu has shown he can provide average or better depending on the month.

Everyone still bitched all summer about not doing anything in net. Don't be foolish
They made no comment saying they were going to do anything net. Anyone would who wanted/ expected them to do anything was just delusional

They were very upfront about the plans they had for the year.

You have to admire Colorado's aggression. They don't let a problem just fix itself

I hope our management wakes up about this.
Yup. Grabbing two goalies with worse stats than our backup. Real ground breaking management there.

Now they have no draft picks or cap space for adding anything else. They blew their load on two backup goalies. This is their roster now.

I’m not “picking” anything. That’s how the rest of the series went that you were talking about. Yes other goalies have bad games in the playoffs but do I really need to post Skinners career playoff sv%?

Last year, we still had clownshow Woody defence to start the year.

This year the entire team started slow starting right from the top with McDrai, probably a cup finals hangover. But still Skinner himself wasn’t good enough, he knows that, Knob knows that.

Yup. It’s not October anymore and players including skinner are playing way better now and people are still complaining.

I think goaltending is a major reason for the shit starts for both years. Team has been supressing shots and chances for a while now, both seasons Skinner has been crap two months into the year and its sucks because it could very well cost us a division title/home ice in the playoffs.

You can't just fart away 10 points at the start of the year like that.

Season starts Oct. 4th, not Dec. 4th, the goalies here might want to get the memo.

Most goalies have some bad games and some good games. The ebbs and flows of a playoff series. But atleast we are paying $2.6M for that reality and not $10M.

Wedgewood and Blackwood have had great play in the past, and with Blackwood he even had better stats than both our goalies until recently. He's been playing for San Jose, while both our guys have been playing behind a contender.

Even if you didn't like these goalies, why not try out different options? I like that Colorado decided they liked these guys and went for it. If our team liked someone else and tried them, I'd like that too. Our goaltending this year has let down the team in a big way.

I'm a big believer that if you have a problem area of the team, you should be cycling guys in. You might find a diamond in the rough who just fits in with the team. Forsling was a cast off once on D. Kipprusoff was a third stringer. Heck, Hasek too

Ya no doubt. Skinner has had more bad playoff games than good which is a problem.

50 goalies have played 10 games

Goals saved above expected

Blackwood - 17th
Skinner - 47th

Save% Above Expected

Blackwood - 19th
Skinner - 44th

GAA Better than Expected

Blackwood -18th
Skinner - 44th

Wins above replacement

Blackwood - 17th
Skinner - 44th

This is after Skinner has had a few better games and is on a top 10 defensive team to boot.....

Lets just hope that if we go into the plays with Skinner, we don't have what happened against Vancouver happen. No guarantee we win that series twice with atrocious goaltending.

If we won game 7 in June, my stance would not have changed at all going into this season. If management wants to stand pat, and goaltending fails us, all we can do is laugh at them. Laugh harder once 97 leaves

Nobody should be pumping Skinner tires until this dude can hit better than above average goaltending consistently. Up your standards Oiler fans.

I would be ecstatic if Skinner can put up six 0.900% games out of every 10 going forward. Small steps.

He has put up 6 in the last 10 games. Lets keep that going

Yeh I’ve read your theory. I agree with a bit of it. But i still think last year Woodys system played a huge part in the underperformance of our goalies. This year not so much, more of that is on Skinner. And in general, both years as a team we always start out slow.

Mainly because they had to give up a decent young NHL forward, a 2nd and every last cent of cap space they had to try out a different option.

That's a lot different than snagging someone off waivers or trading nothing for a third stringer.

It's just Mackenzie Blackwood lol, he's not even good. Skinner has been the better goalie than him all but this season. And even now, Skinner is starting to show some signs of turning things around with a couple good games in a row. I can understand wanting to upgrade the starting goalie but can we at least target someone who struggled to post a 0.900 save percentage in each of the past 3 seasons? Same story with John Gibson btw, awful goalie.

Oilers betting hard on a guy because he has a feel good story due to having a mustache and being a local kid is also certainly a choice.

At least Colorado already got MacKinnon and Makar their Cup.

Like it or not, by virtue of winning a Cup in recent memory, the Avs and Sakic have earned the benefit of the doubt when it comes to pro scouting. That the underlying numbers speak some truth to what they're obviously seeing is also worth mentioning.

Meanwhile, our group has earned no such grace, and so should not expect it from the fans here or anywhere else each time they pass on a player who fills an area of need. Yet, here we are, with people ready to defend Bowman/JJ to the ends of the earth for not doing... anything, really. It's maddening.

No we didn't
Well... i mean we did need Pickard to come and save us in the Vancouver series and that is what he did... it is a fact

We went right back to Skinner because he is the starting goaltender. It was the same when Campbell came in the year before and it would be the same if we brought in another backup to do the exact same thing Pickard did
