Is this trade actually legit though?

This must be fake news cause “teams don’t just trade good goalies” and “who is even available” and “no one trades a goalie this early in the season”
Oilers already stated they aren't moving on from Skinner. Ranting on the forums that they didn't get in on a trade for a mediocre goaltender is a waste of time.

We have traded Alexandar Georgiev and Nikolai Kovalenko to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for Mackenzie Blackwood and Givani Smith.

Holy they traded away one of a very few goalies worse than SKinner for a huge upgrade.

lol
And they traded a decent winger to SJ

Skinner has shown he shits the bed then plays well, then shits the bed....etc

Lets hope she doesnt shit it in the playoffs like he did a few times already.

I am not going to litter this thread with annoying broken record posts, but I hate this orgs laziness.

This is not FOMO> we have been screaming about Blackwood since the start of the year

He SHITS on Skinner #'s wise on a brutal team. Lets see how this plays out for COL. They haven't been a good defensive team like Edmonton has.

What exactly have Mackenzie Blackwood and Scott Wedgwood done to prove that they're immune to not shitting the bed in the playoffs?

What you're describing is acquiring a legit, no doubt #1 that has a track record of playoff consistency - not Mackenzie Blackwood. This goalie very likely is not available.

A 2026 2nd isn't much in the grand scheme of things to improve their biggest weakness. Colorado needed to sweeten the deal a bit to dump Georgiev which is why the other pieces were involved, which we would not have had to do.

Either way, this is the reason why the Avs have a Cup since the cap came in and we don't- proactive management that doesn't accept mediocrity. We, meanwhile, reward it.
I mean that's the hope right, they tried this with Georgiev previously. So it will be interesting to see what happens. They caught lightning in a bottle that one year, but seem to be largely inconsistent, imo.

Are we at the "defend management to no end" stage already? What have Bowman and Jackson done to earn that kind of loyalty from the fans, beyond the local media pumping their tires?

If he is mediocre, then I don't know what Skinner is. Below mediocre thus far

Props to Colorado.

But like I said, let's see how he plays with their Defense. COL defense has looked like sh** this year

What has Skinner even done to earn this? lol. Some people are loyal where they become blind.

I am not even saying get rid of SKinner. Wish we had a guy who could play with him when his eventual shit the bed moments come b/c he will have plenty.

why the f*** are we going to blow our load on a mediocre goalie like blackwood when the stated goal all along was aquiring D . We dont have the assets to make 2 trades.

Defend what? At no point did I pass judgement on their decisions, let alone defend them(or Skinner).

I just pointed out that they aren't moving on from Skinner right now and they were never going to trade for Blackwood.

I mean good on Grier he did well here.

The Avs gave up a 2nd, a young NHL forward, and had to retain on the goalie they sent away. Cap or assets, the Oilers weren't entertaining anything like that.

That’s basically what I said. They can’t make trades because they never do anything to actually free up cap space. They don’t even give themselves an option to do anything. Their whole plan is to run a depleted roster to have some cap potentially at the deadline.

No this is competent management. We love sitting on our hands. We got dat "Hope and wait" strategy
The Avs traded for two journeymen goalies. My god, how did Jackson and Bowman miss out on that. You guys get upset over the smallest things.

Blowing a 2nd rounder on a tandem goalie at best is not the best use of assets.

Where they blew it was not making a move for Fabbro. That's something to bitch about.

The 2nd isn't even the worst of that. Kovalenko has some legit talent and probably more that is untapped.

Our rough equivalent is Podkolzin, and Kovalenko has more value than him.

The caveat being that Folwer is playing for a terrible team and a terrible defensive team. In 15-16 you would have had 30 people here concurring that Justin Schultz had no business playing on a playoff team at all, but then he goes to the Penguins and wins a Stanley Cup playing a top 4 role and playing it well.

This obviously isn't universal, but talented players on shitty teams tend to look a look better when they go to good teams in a more secondary role.
Yes, I’ve thrown that theory around plenty. Players playing for a tire fire will play better on a good team.

I have to ask though, did that theory hold true for Henrique, Skinner, and Emberson? Not really.

We probably did see it with Kulak. Although it was a slow steady upward progression, and there was potential in Kulaks game to think that. Including age and lack of usage in Montreal.

The other thing with Fowler is that he’s played well for that Tire Fire in Anaheim and has regressed in that same tire fire in Anaheim. So we have to ask, what happened there?

I agree. That's a pretty good return for a so so goalie. Should be better then Geeorgiev was for them, but that's a low bar. Nice job by Grier on this trade imo.

I'm trying to picture Georgiev's numbers behind that SJ defense. <shudder> Might be they waive him though and give the starts to Askarov going forward.

If any of you actually thought that this management team was going to do anything but ride Skinner/Pickard you're delusional
I don't think anyone expected something to happen. I think it was a far, distant, faint glimmer of hope that something might happen. The last few games have been better, and I hope that trend continues, but I am still not sold on Skinner as the answer.

I didn't see Kovalenko in there. I thought he was pretty noticeable in a good way the few times I watched the Avs so that's a decent get for the Sharks.

Regardless, it's unsurprising that certain posters (the same ones that constantly complain) are getting their panties in a twist over this minor trade.
