Jackson and Bowman are just kind of baffling.

The way the offer sheets were treated and the rhetoric was that they wanted to be flexible and accrue cap space. It felt like they didn’t want to make any moves because they expected Kane back and would need the cap space to put him back on the roster.

But this whole knee injury feels so calculated that he won’t be back for the playoffs. And now kinda seems like we don’t get the cap space accrual.

And Bowman is super vague whenever he talks. I get that he needs to be careful with his words because the NHL would love to screw us but it feels like management is clueless and doesn’t know what they’re doing.

Guess we will see what happens.
So Vegas can go over with Stone out until playoffs, but we can't go over?

or are we all just assuming here?

They should have just matched the offer sheets then trade both players this August for a haul. I have a bigger feeling they didn't match out of spite instead of over cap space, especially for Holloway.
You can't trade them after matching.

It's becoming obvious to me that Bowman and Jackson screwed up this plan to accrue space and wait to add at the deadline. The East is so jam packed with teams fighting for wild cards that no one will be sellers. Same can be said for the west to a lesser extent.

That means way less sellers, more buyers and an expensive market where we have few assets to spend.
It means nothing right now, the deadline is nearly two months from now so I'm pretty sure there will be changes in the standings between now and then.

Also, you're wrong about the west, it's nothing like the east. There's 7 clear playoff teams that are virtual locks then Vancouver and Calgary battling it out for 8th and a big drop off thereafter. The west playoff spots are almost settled already as crazy as that sounds so there will be plenty of sellers emerging from the west before long and this is with the deadline almost two months away.

Or how about just letting it play out instead of being armchair GM with assumptions of what you THINK is going on.

Sorry to come off as a little dickish but the constant complaining around here over things that there's no reason to complain about is getting grating especially during a stretch when this has been one of the best teams in the league.

If this is true what a crock of shit. Meanwhile every other team that has had stuff like this done doesn't get investigated. Can't play in game 82 but can in game 1 of the playoffs has never been suspicious UNTIL NOW!

There isn't another place in the media that is reporting this, although Daly has said they always keep an eye on this sort of thing. It is what it is, and there is no precedent for the league to do anything about IR situations.

This f***ing garbage league. Zero regrets not spending my money or any of my time watching this shit this season.

There’s a lot of angst over Jeff Skinner.

He is what he is and unfortunately that’s going to hold him back in this lineup.
Ok, then so what is he? What sort of line would he fly with? Slow skaters? Two Elite 2 way players? Thats playets everybody fly with. Skinner is a 3rd liner, or a top 6 on a tank team.

I always said the league won't bother until a Canadian team tries to circumvent and low avs behold here we go
I mean even if you tried to consider it that, Kane legitimately had his whole core surgically rebuilt and his knee as well. He's going to take a long time to recover from that. This isn't Mark Stone and his "oh my back you guys, it just hurts to much you guys" and that f***ing nonsense.

Pro-forma. That makes senses and the Oilers have nothing to hide. Kane has had multiple, extensive surgery's. The league should be and does utilize third-party medical to review all such player health matters.

The issue is The NHL participating in an interventionist manner with Vegas's self-imposed cap issue with Robin Lehner which creates a competitive advantage in waiving cap penalty for a consortia member's bad contract signing.

It's says they can, doesnt say they will. But knowing the way the league treats the Oilers, you're probably right.

I don't care that the NHL is "investigating" it if this is the usual process (and it seems to be). I will care, greatly, if they try to claim we're acting in bad faith and Kane really should be healed before the end of the season so he'll count towards the cap regardless.

I am absolutely a pessimist based on Bettman's previous dealings with us, so fully expect the worst. I also expect if it does come to pass Bowman will be afraid to rock the boat because the NHL was kind enough to give him a second chance. We'll get f***ed like usual and Vegas etc. will get to do whatever they want.

Did anyone even read the article?

It just says the NHL after last year now has the right to conduct third party reviews of all LTIR situations.

There’s nothing in there to suggest that they will, or that this is somehow specific to the Oilers.

According to Liam McCormick (whoever the f*** that is) from Oilers Daily (whatever the f*** that is).

League hasn’t actually said anything, but their statement last year, unrelated to Kane, where Daly said:

“We have an independent, third-party physician review their medical records in detail, and in-person examinations where necessary.”

Key word: “where necessary”.

But if it’s the Oilers and not the Knights, Tampa, or Chicago, they may deem it necessary. But it’s all speculation at this point.

Puckpedia has caused so much uneccesary confusion lol. They are correct that the Oil cannot use both accrual and LTIR to add a single player totalling $8M AAV but they are omitting what the Oilers can do.

The most important thing is: with Kane on regular IR the Oilers are under the cap.

I believe the Oilers are planning to move Kane off LTIR to regular IR, use their accrued cap space (approx $3M at the deadline as of today according to PuckPedia).

Then once they are as close to the cap upper limit they can move Kane back to LTIR and use that amount if they believe he's not coming back in the regular season.

TLDR: Basically they will have to spend to get as close to the cap either via call up or trade (approx $3M accrued by deadline) and then they can use the approx $5 million of LTIR space from Kane if needed.

Disclaimer: This is my opinion only and should not be taken as financial advice lol

of course it is, the biggest joke around here for the last 3 years was if we did it we'd be investigated and punished. Meaning Tampa and Vegas won cups because of LTIR cheating.

Not to beat a dead horse, but what’s the point of the training camp and preseason if you aren’t going to use it to evaluate what you have in a player to give that player a shot in the NHL?

To my eye Kesselring was our most impressive prospect in that preseason. Followed by Hamblin. Whereas guys like Bourgault looked like crap.

In the following season, we played the following defenceman in the NHL instead:
Demers - 1GP
Nemalainen - 23GP
Ryan Murray(!) - 13GP
Desharnais - 36GP
Barrie - 61GP
Broberg - 46GP

And then even Hamblin got his 10GP that season following a strong preseason.

With that much experimentation with our D core that year, we couldn’t give Kesselring an audition? Even if he didn’t want to be here, which i think is a possibility, atleast show him in the NHL to increase his value.
