I wonder if Jeff Skinner would waive to a team that is trying for the playoffs if we add a pick or prospect to move out his salary?
Dallas. Skinner and Duchene would play well together. They would bleed goals but they will also score goals. Seguin is also on LTIR

The best part is no matter what we do at the deadline there will still be complaints from the same people. When you spend months ranting and raving about how dumb management is and they're blowing every player acquisition opportunity, it's tough to just say "wow they actually did pretty good."

No matter who it is we get there will be some reason its bad, whether its price, wishing they got someone else, "they should have just done X back in 2022," or any number of other goal post moves or captain hindsight analysis.

I remember these exact post when Chia or Holland was in charge. Im fully behind Jeff Jackson and will be giving him a few years to show what he can do, but lets not act that a lot of the critiiques of Holland and Chia was ridiculed and dismissed with posts just like this.

The Oilers are going to be doing some cap gymnastics at the deadline.

I'm more worried about the lack of sellers in the east and the cost to acquire those players. Our big acquisition might be a Savard or Jokiharju.
We could've gotten one of Carrier, Fowler, Fabbro etc if we had decided to trade early and not accrue cap space. What's the point of having cap space if there is nothing to use it on?

Oilers management should always be held to intense scrutiny until they do something.

No it f***ing didn't. People need to quit spouting this bullshit. Ekholm was in rumours for over a year, and he was on Seravellis trade board when he released it in January or whenever he does it.
Fair, but he didn't seem like the most likely candidate, other names were more prominently discussed at that time. The guy who would qualify as that right now would be K'Andre Miller, he's been talked about as being available, but I would be surprised (pleasantly) if became an Oiler at the deadline.

Are you sure there won't be better ones as more teams decide to become sellers closer to the deadline? Remember the Ekholm trade came out of nowhere just before the TD.
I remember but, with so many teams in the East being weak and close to a playoff spot, I'm nervous that there might not be many defenders available for trade

SHows you how much these writers watch hockey. How long has Kaprizov been injured? Helly should be on there I think even Quinn Hughes. Mack always gets his dik rubbed while being on makars teama nd being an EN merchent while Drai gets shunned for being on mcDavids team

If we manage to snag him or Schneider, I will get drunk with joy

I mean Bardown left Leon off the list, It's basically a race between MacKinnon, Draisaitl and Hellebuyck right now.

The Oilers hae been one of the most active teams in the NHL the last few seasons. Lot's of roster turnover.
I said proactive. As in addressing concerns as they arise. Roster turnover is hardly anything new as almost every year we have new faces in the bottom six.

It's funny how often people complain about the goaltending then are surprisingly okay with standing pat until the deadline.

It was him and Chychrun at the time as the two big options iirc, maybe Jensen too. I wanted Chychrun, but was cool with either. People forget there was question marks with Ekholm too. Did he have any more offense to show? Was he going to age well? Fortunately both seem to have gotten a positive answer.

I'd say K'andre is closer to Chychrun. Young guy, very athletic, showed some flashes of high end offensive potential, people question their defensive work. Matheson is more like the Ekholm for this year imo, not in play style, but that they are an older guy with some question marks but term with a good caphit. His ?'s are a bit more worrisome though. Will his offense translate here without PP time? Can he play RD effectively? Is he a bone head in the defensive zone?

I too would welcome Miller though.

Ekholm was in rumours before signing his long term deal and then they quieted down until they were struggling in the second half of the year he was traded when it seemed like Preds would miss the playoffs. Preds weren’t trading him months before the trade deadline when they were still pushing.

Maybe Preds were taking calls and seeing what kind of value was out there but they certainly weren’t going to trade him in December or January. So if management would have moved early to make a trade, they would have wasted their shot and missed the opportunity to trade for Ekholm.

Patience pays and the suckers always panic and make dumb moves early.
