Man Columbus players must be dragging in disappointment and frustration tonight. The team limited Washington to 22 shots while they fired 36 against washington. Basically Tarasov let in every third shot against.
Management there must be going out and paying a premium for a decent goalie.

I disagree, we might have a few too many that are currently producing like 4th liners, but I don't feel any of the following are 4th liners when they are playing well.

McDavid
Draisaitl
RNH
Hyman
Arviddson
Skinner
Henrique
Brown
Kane

These guys would fit the 4th liner status imo...

D. Ryan
Perry (could play up in the lien up to fill in - short term)
Pod (has potential to be more)
Philp
Janmark

all that being said, I like the depth on this team, and I do like what Kostin had brought to the Oil on his first stint. At 50% retained, I'd love him on the 4th line. Not sure if they could swing it, but if it was super cheap and made sense, why not?
I’d consider signing him in the offseason but I wouldn’t trade for him. You’d need 3rd party retention which isn’t worth it for a player of his caliber.

Dylan Strome is a player on pace for (checks notes) 132 points this year. Really wanted the Oilers to get in on him when he could have been had for cheap. Aside from the obvious connections to McDavid, he's just a good player.

Stan Bowman acquired him when he was in Chicago and then Chicago let him walk after Bowman resigned for basically nothing.

Washington got a top 3 pick basically for nothing but a 3.5 mill/1 year contract in summer 2022, lol. Absolute highway robbery.
I remember people wanting him here, but a ton of posters got angry at the thought of it. Called him too slow, etc.

Depends on the cost, at the deadline I can't imagine it being that much.

If Evander Kane reinjures himself or doesn't recover well, then we are sorta back to being a soft team, having Kostin for this year's stretch run/playoffs would be a good add.

Kostin might be on waivers soon. If you trade for him you’re likely paying more for retention then you are for the player. It’s just not worth the assets when you’re dealing with 4th line/tweener types.

Nils Åman on waivers from the Canucks.

Wouldn't mind taking a him. Doesn't do anything excpetionally well, but he is 6'2, a strong skater, and can PK well, plus play centre.

Imo he'd be an upgrade on Ryan as the 13th forward, and he 's 75k cheaper.

Not to mention I wouldn't mind taking a petty shot at COL for claiming Lavoie when the Oil had a chance to send him down. They're currently dying for playable forwards at the moment.

Roby?

It's not like anyone else is scoring in the lineup besides Draisaitl. Worth taking a flier on or nah?

I’m a fan. I saw him good at the World. Championships last year and made a couple of posts about him. He was busting his ass on every shift and though I’m not really one to judge on stuff like that, I thought he had a nice quick shot too. Not sure where he would fit into this lineup and I don’t think he PKs. He’s got more offensive chops than some of our bottom six though for sure.

His metrics are borderline worst in the league since he left here.
That's an oversimplification, breaking it down season by season:

20/21 NSH played above his head in a top 4 role and was close to breaking even.
21/22 NSH- terrible numbers in the running for worst D in the league
22/23 SJ- played in a top pairing role, did quite well in his role given the task at hand.
23/24 SJ- not good numbers, but a sample of 14 games is too small to read deeply into them (but was again asked to play above his head with really high d-zone start bias)
24/25 SJ- bad numbers in a small sample size, but coming off a major hip injury.

I think he shouldn't be an option for us simply cause he hasn't demonstrated numbers that show he has bounced back post hip injury, but at the same time I think he is a text book case of a player repeatedly asked to take on a role above his head on bad teams and his numbers suffer as a result.

Hmmm....your last sentence seems to be the big one for us. Think Roby will switch to center eventually and Savoie to RW. Carcone would be in against D'Amato (who has surprised), Petrov who needs to do better this year, and Drake Caggs who can cycle well.
Carcone is what he is I think....really hard worker with a pretty decent shot but average vision and average defensively. He is a tweener? Depth. Maybe we should save the slot for someone with more upside (and more size for the fourth line cycle). Interesting that D'Amato is one of two players this year from Henderson Silver Knights.

Knights...London Knights play at 12.00 noon our time against Owen Sound. They should do well. OHL used to provide Links. Bill Nicholls and Samy O'Really playing.

Carcone would be up with the big club. Utah is looking to trade him because they figure he’d get claimed on waivers.

I don’t really see who he knocks out of the lineup especially if they go back to 12 forwards when McDavid is healthy.

So if we had him he would be in the A pretty quick trying to challenge for our 4th line.

Vegas going to give Akira a look soon.

Does SKinner still have a year left?

I would sign Stolarz next year or Vancouvers guy Lankenen. I think Stolarz signed 2 years though

Edit - Stolarz signed a 2 year contract at 2.5M per. Guy looks like Patrick Roy compared to SKinner

We don't have to worry about anyone claiming Ryan if we want to send someone down. Aman cleared for Vancouver. I doubt Ryan is much more desirable. I bet Knoblauch wants him to stay up

He might get claimed, he an NHL veteran from a team that just went to the finals and is player you can trust in your bottom-6 and on the PK, plus he's a right handed faceoff taker. He's just not the quickest, and that's tough along side Corey Perry.

I wonder if he would be claimed. He can’t play more than 40 games a season. He’s pooched. Good depth for a top tier team to spell in and out occasionally, but let’s limit that to the top 6 teams. And do they not have similar depth given how shitty edmontons is?

If it costs a 6th for him and a 7th for a broker to retain 1.1M, why not?

On Oilers Now, Bob Stauffer said he sees moving 2 second round picks and another pick as the way to get a top 4 Dman in Edmonton. He also said that he sees Philly and Columbus as likely trade partners and, perhaps, even a left handed Dman (who can play the right side) as who we may add.

That means Risto or Provorov at least for now

Guess it depends what your opinion is of Nurse but I think we need to aim higher which is why I am not sure how we end up with a good RD.

Least with Prororov, theres a chance he plays well. Risto I just don’t see it.

I kind of also question JJ and his whole analytics department. He went after guys like Brown. Risto has been meh for a long time. I don’t see a whole lot of shrewd moves. Feels like hes a bit of a fraud to me.

The "best" thing for Kostin and the Sharks might just be a mutual contract termination. Yes he loses his payday, but he's not likely to play many more games for SJ at this rate so no one will have any reason to trade for him and he'll just end up going unqualified in the summer. However if they agree to mutually terminate his contract he can still sign for 2x $1M somewhere, guaranteeing he makes the same amount of money and has a contract next season.

I’d rather go for Carcone
