Ehh, not a fan of that deal on paper but if chia flips that first for Vatanen or something along the lines of that, it wouldn't be too bad. We need to give to to get and the d market is dwindling at this point. Essentially, we flip 4th (Tkachuk) and Yak for Hamonic and Vatanen. I can live with that but I hope Chia can make some deals happen without moving down that far in the draft.

I'm a bit torn on it myself, but the current MO is we need d help now, and Hamonic accomplishes that. Yakupov's value is such a complex thing to discuss. At least this deal results in us getting a top-4 dman and a 1st round pick without losing any of the core.

I understand the rationale in it.

what? that would be a massive overpay on our part

Massive overpay? What?

This would be a very good deal for the Oilers. Yak has virtually no value and wouldn't be a loss at all for the Oilers so it's essentially 4th for Hamonic+19th. A #2 Dman signed to a great contract. A Klefbom-Hamonic pairing would be exactly what the doctor ordered (outside of getting a legit #1 obviously).

Hamonic is the best of all the Dmen being talked about (Barrie, Vatanen, Demers etc.), the only one capable of playing tough minutes and not looking foolish and they could still flip the 19th+ or one of the $6M forwards for a puckmover. Not that I believe for a second that this deal will ever happen (no offense Ovechking).

Hey guys,

Just popping in to relay some info I heard today. Barrie talks obviously on hold, but interestingly Hamonic talks heating up. Increasingly likely that Oilers send 4th OA + Yakupov for Isles 1st + Hamonic.

I'd be quite pleased with that deal, Hamonic is pretty close to 4th overall value-wise for me and there is no way Yak would fetch the Isles 1st by himself. If Puljujarvi slid to us I'd probably pass on the deal, but if the draft goes as predicted with Matthews and the two Finns gone by 4, I'd say yes.

Would be completely happy with this deal to be honest. Anything that keeps Hall an Oiler unless a number one is coming back is fine by me.

Would love it. First pair RHD and we still get a 1st. Hamonic isn't a #1 but would do wonders for our backend. Let Gryba walk then and find a bottom pair RHD PP specialist.

Klefbom Hamonic
Sekera Fayne
Davidson/Nurse/Reinhart PP specialist

Not bad. Plus, we could make a run at Lucic, and we don't move any roster players.

Agreed. Hamonic's deal is a 3.85 cap hit for the next four seasons.

A top pairing of Klefbom and Hamonic for 8 million for the next four years? Uh, yes please.

The one area that's got me scratching my head is that Snow has been insisting all along he wants defensive help now. I wonder if Okposo and potentially Nielsen walking has changed things.

Losing 4th would suck, there's no bones about it. However, we do get 19 back, which we could then move for more D help if we chose, or draft the BPA there. Some intriguing talent around there.

I know I'm echoing what has been said by many many others, but Hall is absolutely not going anywhere. He's an Oiler until he refuses to be.

The capital he brings in for the franchise is irreplaceable.

I'm pretty attached to the 4th as well but to get a Dman of Hamonic's caliber who you don't have to overpay with a big contract and a 1st rounder as well? Sign me the hell up. I think getting a minute munching Dman is just as important as getting a puckmover. Hamonic is the only one who fits the bill of the Dmen being discussed. Plus it would be fun to see the smug Islander fans losing their minds.

However, I just can't see Snow dealing him now. The optics would look pretty bad after Hamonic rescinded so this is likely pipedream stuff.

So if the 4th for Hamonic went down do you picture RNH or Eberle heading out the door for a collection of pieces or is Chia willing to keep all 3 six million dollar forwards?

Well...

Let's look at this.

Say this deal's got legs.

And say, just for the sake of argument, the Pouliot+ for Vatanen deal also has legs, and Vatanen signs for somewhere in the neighborhood of $5 million.

And, just for funzies, let's say the Lucic and McGinn rumours also have legs - at $6 x 5 for Looch and 3x3 for McGinn.

Hall (6) Drai (.925) Maroon (1.5)
Lucic (6) McDavid (.925) Eberle (6)
McGinn (3) RNH(6) Kassian (1.5)
Hendricks (1.8) Letestu (1.8) Khaira (.875)
Lander (.950) Pakarinen (.850)

Klefbom (4.16) Vatanen (5)
Sekera (5.5) Hamonic (3.85)
Nurse (.863) Davidson (1.425)
Scrub (1)

Talbot (4.16)
Backup (1.5)

If my math is right, that lineup rings in at right around $67 million. We'd likely get kicked in the teeth by the bonus cushion but whatever.

Now, it's daydreaming that we dump Korpikoski and Fayne for mid picks at full pop. It's also daydreaming that all of this happens. We're also colossally screwed when raise time for Drai and McDavid rolls around.

BUT, if Chiarelli makes it a priority to keep the 6 million dollar men for the short term to increase their value at the cost of having a rather inexperienced and frankly fairly poor bottom 6, it CAN be done.

Edit: Forgot Maroon. I seemingly always do.

I wouldn't love that deal. But I would probably be OK with it. We do need 2 top 4 D

Ovechking, do you know if this is a draft day deal or something that could occur prior to it?

I think it's in the org's best interests to see what offers come along draft day, especially after seeing who goes 1-2-3 before moving #4.

There's basically no chance that the pick is traded before draft day imo - I can't recall any recent trades where a first rounder has been moved in the offseason pre-draft, which just makes sense.

I can't see it being moved until then either, I was just curious of the chance it could be moved prior to next Friday.

I like the Arizona 4 for 7 & 20. Maybe they (Arizona) are waiting to see if Tkachuk is still on the board.

Trade a player for the dman upgrade, not a superstar, just someone helpful until our youngins are ready to take over. Just having our best players, forwards and d, healthy will improve our position in the league. I really believe we are building something here.

It looks like the oilers will be busy. Just waaaay to much smoke around the oilers.

The fact it sounds like the oilers have not made an effort to any of Gryba, Clendening or Pardy--gets me to think the Chia Pet has something on the go already where he adds a d-man and does not send out a d-man
