Maybe we can get some news about something today... anything please God anything before I go crazy. Hate the quite timesure. Here's to hope that it is the question before the storm

I think everything happens next Friday for us. Thats what I'm hoping anyways. I want to see it all live at the draft. I'll try to run into to Chiarelli in the washroom and convince him of some things. If only it were MacT

It's going to be a long summer.

Yeah at least we get the world Cup of hockey before the season I'm just itching for the draft at least, which now is a week away. Don't really care what happens I just need some news something to talk about.

We had all the news we need, mostly yesterday.

No one is available, everyone on the team, safe for McDavid to an extent, is isn't worth much so here we are staring down another long season.

New Best case scenario for the Defense

Trade Eberle (30% retention) and #32 overall for Shattenkirk as is (Beg him to stay all year, probably move him at the deadline)
Trade 4th overall and Mark Fayne (they need to his the floor) for Michael Stone

Klefbom - Shattenkirk
Stone - Sekera
Nurse - Davidson
Osterle, Reinhart.

These trades are awful.

We already know Shattenkirk wants to be in the East. Basically you're wasting one of your best trade chips for a year of someone with their foot already out the door.

You don't use 4th overall and anchor Fayne to it just to settle for Stone.

I give them the choice of either matching that offer sheet or taking Nugent Hopkins straight across.

It's ****ing ruthless, but maybe it's time for that approach.

Doesn't Edmonton have to provide a first, second and third round pick for an offer sheet AAV of $7,000,000? I thought we owed Boston that 2nd rounder from the Chiarelli deal. Did something change?

no you are good. The AAV on this offer in terms of compensation is 9.75 (48.75/5 as offer sheets is total value divided by the lesser of 5 or actual term) so its the oilers next 4 1st rounders..so a RNH offer straight across might not cut it.

This is just speculation though isn't it? I'm not writing this off season off yet.
On other note who is disappointed Eakinship isn't going to be Calgary head coach lol. Happy it isn't Kruger though.

It's the Oilers though, their desperation will force them to overpay for things. Giving away 4th overall is much more reasonable then having to trade Nuge or Hall with a retention.

This is the Oilers guys.

Again the "Want" would be to re-sign him, but it's the Oilers, he can see the writing on the wall and the Oilers won't have choice, it will be trade him or watching him leave for nothing.

Love that were writing the season off before we even get to the draft :shakehead

That's nothing. We wrote last season off last year in April when MacT said the next year was a 'developmental' year. This board was full of hate then. It's like MacT was the Supreme Emperor of the Galactic Empire just letting the hate flow through us

Then came Luke Skywalker (McDavid) to save the day

Not sure why you're surprised, Defenseman are impossible to trade for because all of them are being kept by their teams (see Barrie) and the Oilers are so crazy desperate they don't have hope. They should have just picked the right picks earlier and they wouldn't be in this situation.

Seeing Bob Mackenzie say on a radio show that he expects more UFA trades happening this weekend makes me think Chiarelli might try to snag Demers or Campbell with a pick to try to save face before the draft so he can at least say "I got 1 Top 4 Dman. Get off my back"

This is it. The Oilers don't have the benefits the other teams have. We're dealing from a position of weakness, it's going to happen.

Basically, I mean I'm still being hopeful with those deals, they will likely involve more picks/prospects from the Oilers (though it's not as if those hold much value), it will be quite an accomplishment if most of the core don't "ask" for a way out by August when things look like we expect them to.

Well we now know one GOOD possibility for Stamkos now

Edit: And I wouldn't be surprised if Datsyuk was traded to Arizona or Carolina to eat the cap for the 1 year left. Jurco or 2nd Rounder maybe going too?

It's not the same Oilers though.

If Chiarelli was into giving away players, Yakupov would have been gone during the trade deadline for whatever chaff was being offered.

Pessimism is fine and good if it's after the draft and free agency and nothing has changed, but this just feels like negativity for the sake of being negative.

Yeah its getting crazy around here.

A couple trades happen that dont include us and everyone panics that we will miss out on everything. Thank goodness we have an experienced competent manager in there.

Holy **** Didn't Datsyuk basically retire already? Why is this news?

I wonder if the Oilers, in their desperation, will move #32 to Detroit hoping to get Datsyuk (trying to convince him to still play) and the rights to Quincey (trying to get him to sign, because defenseman)

Well there was speculation he'd not be returning next year, but it wasn't confirmed until now. Then Dreger (I know, he isn't the best for rumors) speculates Stamkos could be going to Detroit.

Yes, because Chiarelli clearly cares about image over actual results. :sarcasm:

I'd expect NYR, NYI, MTL and TOR will throw their bids in also.
