You have to wonder when the NHL realizes that a cap that escalates this slowly is damaging their product.

Is it? I'm not that old, but this is the most active amount of player movement the league has seen in as long as I can remember.

That said, from a selfish angle a rising cap would sure help the Oilers out right now.

NHL and PA have an agreement in place to not raise the cap until the Escrow account the players owe the owners is repaid in full.

Most projections have it falling just short of that this season. Close enough that some believe both sides will put pressure on Bettman to let it go and let the cap escalate.
So basically the initial increase bettman had was $4M to $86.5M nxt year as of September.

Now it is $1M to $83.5M.

If they can put the pressure there for even like $2-3M instead of $1M we could field a pretty good team next year.

Ya lots of choices.

I was lucky enough to move into that area (basic bungalow). I never knew how awesome the river valley is. Some of the forest trails make you feel like you aren’t in a city. We’ve bought kayaks to use on the river too.

I think Ekholm will really enjoy the city. People like to crap on our city but it’s really beautiful if you like to get outdoors.
They found the right NA city. Not many cities have as much green space as Edmonton and you can walk and see a Moose, deer, beavers, etc and just fully enveloped green spaces. One of the really nice things is we've protected our river valley and ravine spaces more than most Urban areas have done.

This is OT but Drai is urban based. He loves Cologne, loves the city, history that type of thing. Edmonton doesn't really do anything for him. But sounds like Ekholm and his family will really love it here.

look at this place. Not too high priced for a pro hockey player and your back yard is essentially river valley. Much better locations exist, but not many of those are currently up for sale.

I also found a thread Fourier is active in with Mouser and co where they estimate the true cap based on revenues would be high $90s like $97M.

Edit: if I am Ken I am not really worried about the drai money if we project to have pretty fast cap escalation.

If the revenue projections Bettman made earlier hold I think there will be a negotiated increase. Otherwise it really impacts new free agents. If they don't increase the cap by more than $1M I could see a lot of guys signing one year deals hoping for a big payoff in 2024-2025.

What would really choke me is if they kept it at $83.5M and teams like Arizona made a killing selling their cap sapce while not even trying to compete.

Cap is only going up $1MM this year right?

Question why so low with the revenues now (including the amount the players owe) isnt there room for a fairly sizeable increase?

Players have to pay back the escrow owed to the owners due to covid

The oilers not sending down Shore and upgrading is stupid and lazy.
I pointed out earlier that there is maybe 4 players available with 50% retention that would be good adds that are clear improvements on Shore, which none of them have been moved today.

If AZ did that?????

Shore is definitely the weak link who you hope would be upgraded, but in the end this is a solid deadline for a team that is probably even better than they look if they can get consistent goaltending.

Play Skinner more and hope he remains steady. Goaltending is often a crapshoot in the playoffs anyways.
