That’s ridiculous. If he had a really good year this year, to build off last year, it would still be crazy, but could at least have some justification. This is just insane.
Not insane at all. Sanderson is likely to be a top pairing Dman at minimum and $8m/yr will be #2 Dman money soon enough if not already. If he grows into a #1 Dman, this is a steal.
It's almost always a smart bet to lock up your young core players as soon as you can, if only the Oilers did that with Nurse and now Bouchard. Imagine if they bridged Draisaitl?

It's a contract you give to pillar roster player. Ottawa doesn't have a McDavid or a Draisaitl. So they've got to choose which guys they're putting all their faith in to lead a competitive core.

I think that Sanderson is the guy they view as their #1D moving forward. And it wouldn't shock me to see them flip Chabot and focus on improving their right side.

"Everything Oilers do bad, everything other teams do good."

Would love to see the reaction if the Oilers signed a guy that only played 77 games in the league to an $8x8 deal by the exact same poster.

So how does this work exactly if the Oil win?
Shouldn't these couple, two, three posters be banned as all they did is sh** on every move and decision?

It would blatant trolling if they partake in any success imo. No?

Skinner with new equipment, looks good. He also looks like he's standing up a bit more in his crouch.

Hopefully someone in the media asks about his positioning and he says he worked with a different goalie consultant/coach during the offseason to improve his game.

Agreed, I think Sanderson will be their top guy going forward not Chabot. I don't know if they'll trade Chabot anytime soon but Sanderson is projecting to be more of a two way force that will line up against elites every night so Chabot could be expendable down the line when they're closer to winning.

Big difference is Leon had played damn near 200 games. Where he got better each year and in the playoffs he stepped it up as well. Guy was actually better than McDavid that year

Not that I have a lot of confidence in Chychyrun being healthy, but if he is he could very well be stealing time away from Sanderson on the PP. Which could limit Sanderson's points next year.
There were still a ton of questions at the time as to whether he was good or just good with McDavid. Thankfully it paid off but there were always potential for the deal to go sideways.

If the Oilers win, fantastic.

Until they do they're still an underachieving team. Are we not allowed to critique management?

He also didn't truly develop his lethal goal scoring ability from the off wing until long after that deal was signed as well. At the time all we knew is we had a big centre that was an amazing play maker, decent goal scorer, and had a great playoff in 2017.

We only saw bits and pieces of the Leon we know now up until the second year of his $8.5M deal. His season in 17-18 left a lot to be desired as well, especially in comparison to what he has done every season since.

There's no question it was a gamble that paid off handsomely. Signing young players to lengthy terms always carries a degree of risk, even with the likes of McDavid.

I just think there is a lot less risk when signing a forward with close to 200 games under his belt than a d-man with less than 80 to long-term deals.

That whole sophomore slump is something real that we see every year and some guys never quite recover.

Barring any trades or waiver claims, which of these players makes the team as our 12th forward?

Assuming that these guys are locks for the top 11:
McDavid
Draisaitl
RNH
McLeod
Kane
Hyman
Brown
Ryan
Janmark
Holloway
Foegele
I don't think Janmark is a lock by any means. He was waived last year and I can see him waived before Lavoie if Lavoie has even an OK camp

Anyone have the Oilers PK stats before and after Janmark was called up last season? They seemed to struggle when he was injured in the playoffs (that's a small sample size though)

I ask because that may work in his favor for making the roster out of camp this season.

People think vet players getting massive contracts is a bad idea because they age poorly more times than not. Well this is the alternative, and I can’t say I disagree with it.

So some trade i suggested earlier...

June 3rd...Yamo and 2nd 24 for Lorentz and Eetu (for the farm)

July 15ish -- Broberg for Kovacevic (yes giving up Brobergs potential)

August -- Buy FA Nick Ritchie(850K)

Lavoie Pedersen Janmark go to the farm along with Nemo.

You need an address to pick up your black trench coat and your truncheon?
Lmao. The guy is advocating for BANNING people who are criticizing management decisions. How far gone are some of these people? Of course he has never made a real suggestion or attempted nuanced conversation about how the game is played at all. Another one of these dorks who are quick to cry and laugh but will never offer up their own ideas.

Either that or they're simply content with mediocrity. Or maybe they don't enjoy the idea of forum discussions.

As for the Sanderson discussion, there's a 1.5 hour long video of him from this season of general plays. It only takes til the third play to see how he has separated himself from any of our D. That pass across to Brunnstrom is simply elite.

Lol a routine cross zone pass is what separates him from "any of our D?"

Bouchard does that several times a game. At least.

Hmm, yea, don't know about that one. Laughing out loud trying to count the instances in which any of Nurse, Ceci, Kulak, Broberg, Desharnais, Ekholm make that pass. Less than one handful per season. There are tons of wonderful deft plays like that from this kid. 8x8 is a steal.

Kinda hard to take your opinion at face value when your evidence is a fan made video compiling all his best plays from the season. You could call any NHL player elite by compiling a video made solely of their best moments from a season and using that as your evidence. Just like you could make a video of every bad play and mistake that Sanderson made throughout the season and using that as evidence to say he’s a bad player.

While I agree that the video is 1.5 hours of notable plays, and does not display his assured periodic failures, some of the plays he makes in the video are evident of an elite talent that we simply do not have. A dynamic force from the backend. Bouchard is quite similar to Barrie.

I actually do agree there's been a lack of action....but realistically if people weren't so addicted to responding to his obvious rage-baiting posts, the problem with Cool and the Gang would sort itself on its own.

It's not that these posters criticize decisions. That's their personality on this board. It's all they talk about. Always a negative viewpoint. And when the team is successful...crickets.

Just a repetitive drone of negative bullshit.
