Listening to the Babcock interview he mentions finding ice for all the C’s and he dropped Nuges name.

I fully expect McDrai at home when they have the last change and Nuge at 2C.

Reading between the lines, I’m thinking he wants to build a bigger 3rd line around Dickinson.

The Howard trade seems pointless right now.

Nobody wants Debrusk. In fact it's my personal doomsday scenario.

I'm just assuming it's going to happen because it's actually realistically achievable and also a very Oilers move.

There is definitely a few who have lobbied for him on these boards and of course it is even more elevated when you get to the twitter, Youtube, and radio sphere.

Why would he hate Howard? Babs likes his skilled forwards that prioritize puck possession.

As long as Howard is responsible defensively and playing with effort, there won't be any issues.

I tend to agree, but the playstyle fits that role like a glove. He's also a stronger RW than a C, but that ability to take draws is a bonus.

I have a question for the people who want to pay to acquire Debrusk, what makes you like him more than Mantha? The current rumors are Mantha's cap-hit will be between $5-$6M on an extension and looking for a 4 year deal, where as Debrusk is at $5.5M on a 5 year deal, and their ages are pretty close.

In terms of the player I just don't see anything that Debrusk brings to the table that Mantha doesn't, Mantha is a bigger frame with a higher skill ceiling and while it doesn't come out often I'd say he has more snarl/edge to his game. I guess Debrusk is a better PP guy, but Mantha is a better 5v5 guy, and we need more help at 5v5 than the PP. They also battle similar inconsistency/work ethic issues, but can be dynamite when they are on.

It feels like the drive for Debrusk is more name recognition and being a local kid, cause I think he is plainly worse than Mantha.

Debrusk has a higher motor, but otherwise I agree. Jake Debrusk is a definitely the “feel good” type of acquisition that doesn’t actually feel any good to add.

I don’t know if he would hate him but the way it looks right now on how they want to build their lineup, I don’t see a fit.

The whole idea of the SOR for Howard swap was that Howard was further along in development but now it’s looking like they will be playing in the same league next year.

Why would we pay 5-6M on the open market for someone who has averaged 46 points but only played 66% of games the last five years when we could pay $5.5M for someone who has averaged 94% of games with the same PPG? Staying healthy is just as important a skill as any other.

This is what I say when I mean I think people see the last name here and freak out. You are not getting more consistent or better production (or health) for what DeBrusk makes in FA. It’s just not happening. You might win on a one year deal like a Mantha, but that’s not a sustainable solution and it’s just as likely you end up with a J. Skinner or Olofsson.

Howard (they call me flash) has improved somewhat at the defensive game at the AHL level but he has a long way to go.

Why they would trade a centre with obvious high end defensive chops for Flash after stating they want to play a modified 1-3-1 game is beyond me. That trade is anti plan.

I think Howard first squirms then breaks under the lash. By January or February he will want out.

True enough, I just don’t see Nurse working to improve. A player like Hyman doesn’t have the natural gifts Nurse has, Yet he works to improve.

Meh. I think Nurse works hard to improve. The problem is that hockey sense is a bottleneck you can't improve a whole lot if you don't have it.

If this team ends up dumping Nurse just to take back a bad contract, a redundant player (Ristolainen) or retaining significant salary then they should just keep him. Then they have to hope he has an ok season under Babcock/Smith and they will be able to trade him to 21 teams next summer.

The point of dumping Nurse before the 10 team NTC kicks in next summer is to improve the team THIS summer. If they do any of the above they won't be able to do that unless they dump other useless salary like Frederic and Jarry.

Uner Babs I agree with you. With just about any other coach I would be scared to offer him very much of a contract. His history speaks for itself.

Kind of moot there’s not much cap to do anything with the league flush with space without moving Nurse. Pretty much everyone can outbid us with $9m in cap space and a few RFAs still to ink.

How? We would still need a LD unless you think Stastney is ok? Ideally, the point of trading Nurse would be to use his money for a LD and top six forward.

Trading for Ristolainen would have made perfect sense if they hadn't extended Murphy. Otherwise the $4 million in "savings" will be spent on a new LD and also hurting Emberson ice at the same time.

Philly can trade Ristolainen and then give us whatever they get for him. Win-win.

Isaac Flashman played 300 minutes at the beginning off the season. mostly Ozone starts. His defensive side and his play away from the puck sucked.
You think he was sent down because of lack of offense? He was sent down to get a certain level on the downside of the puck.
Our bottom 6 was far from good last year ....did we see an extended up of coffee for Howard? Why do you think that might be.

That would be Mangiapane v 2.0. Banking on one 50 point season as what we’d get, and instead it’s the outlier. Would be par for the course with our dumb pro scouts.
