Yup. It was. But let’s be real, at this time of year almost everything is going to be an overpay. lol.8 x 10.5. Oof he's good but I don't think that good.

We say this every year but we barely do shit. The Oilers should hold their cap space provided they get some from Nurse to try and take a real big swing eventually (like say if Boston regresses, maybe Pastranak wants out at the deadline).
If you keep spending on the Mikeyehev's and Frederics of the world you are always going to be capped out and locked out of getting anyone really good.

That’s what happens when the new GM was the old GM of the other team.Another weird trade.
Svechkov++ for Drury despite Svechkov being a young, former 1st rounder that's already basically as good as Drury.

He'd better not be our big move...
That's fine if that's the goal. I'd argue the savings next season is pretty slim though. There's no way they can go into season with Stastney as the #3LD, can they? Aren't you going to spend $2-3M on something decent for that spot(especially for in case Walman gets injured)? Nurse+6D+7D is about $11.5M. Risto+new 6D+7D is like $8-9M?
$2-3M ain't bad, but seems like pennies when you're likely making the roster worse and pushing a good young player out of the lineup(Emberson) and losing another(Stastney).
Long term it's great, but making the roster worse next year is a mistake. People seem to be sure Nurse is going to return a decent player. Surely there's something other than Risto out there.

Honestly, if I had a choice in signing Mikheyev long term or Frederic, I would've picked MikheyevI want Mikheyev and like the player quite a bit, but its seems like him and Nuge both ideally slot on the 3rd line LW spot and while I'm sure you could slide Mikheyev to the RW that just feels like a lot of money to spend on a 3rd line. While one could argue we'd be spending roughly as much money on the 3rd line with Frederic taking that spot instead, but he's a mistake we are stuck with so its more of a trying to make lemonade out of lemons situation.
So just make the roster worse instead of seeing if we can possibly plug a different hole with this deal?Yes I'd much much rather have Risto+4m.cap savings next season with a need at 3LD and $9.25m cap savings for the next 3 years than Nurse and his contract and 4m more on the cap this season. Very much so
I do not believe these people who think Nurse at full contract will return something decent, not for one second, so if they can get a cheaper expiring contract for him I'd be very happy.

I mean... tampering always happens. We definitely tampered with HymanWait a minute here, is that not tampering?

Happens all the time. That's why you have free agents signed within mins of being availableWait a minute here, is that not tampering?
But just because you don’t believe doesn’t mean it’s a good idea to downgrade on Nurse in a position we don’t need to because you are desperate for an expiring deal.Yes, that's if you consider the downgrade from Nurse to Risto to be significant which I don't think it is. Plus they'd have $4m+ extra to play with to make roster improvements
Also, I have to repeat that I don't believe that Nurse has positive value without retention so getting a much cheaper expiring contract and getting free of the $9.25m caphit for the three seasons thereafter is a huge selling point for me and about as good as the Oilers can do with a Nurse return IMO.
I thought a few weeks ago someone said Chicago basically gave everyone permission to speak to him.Wait a minute here, is that not tampering?
Couldn't live up to it and quit, are quite differentNurse quit as soon as he signed his contract
