Rumor: Rumors & Proposals Thread | If Babcock is Our New Coach Will Players Want to Come Here?

To be fair, Debrusk has had five 20 goal seasons. Mangiapane got over 20 goals once.

This is important to note as it exemplifies how insanely f***ing stupid our management is for betting on Mangiapane. However, while Debrusk is clearly more talented he also is paid significantly more, and is at his best an extremely hot and cold player. It’s difficult to stomach unless they are taking salary back or there’s retention or something like that.

Personally I would 100% gift them Howard on a platter for the privilege of swapping Frederic for Debrusk, for example.

But maybe there is a goaltending swap to be had for a price. If they would take Jarry for Demko I would also pay for that regardless of Demkos health. If he gives us 20 healthy games a year that’s like more quality goaltending than we would get from Jarry. Wonder what the asset cost would be there.

Marc Arcobello was no where close to Howard...lol
Howards road will not be a short one and it will be full of twists and turns. Because of his offensive upside it worth it to some teams with patience so see it through.
Do we have that kind of time?

He is exactly the kind of Muck Danny Briere love to throw at the barn door.

Stauffer is talking about Cossa and Levi and Edmonton. He says Dipietro won't be traded. He's also discussing Debrusk.

- Lebrun says Oilers are talking to teams about Nurse. They've been spending a lot of time on it for the last few days

Nurse should have been traded by now but other teams want to fleece us. Dubas is probably having a field day

Honestly I think it makes sense to hold onto Howard right now because I don't think he's actually going to have much value around the league. Yes he had a really solid rookie year down in the AHL, but until he shows something in the NHL I think teams are going to look at him as an undersized guy who when he had a look in the show put up 5 points in 30 games and sucked defensively.

People keep throwing him into proposals here like... here take our 1st rounder that is 2 years from now and our undersized 22 year old winger that looked like dog shit in his half season in the NHL and give us your 26 year old 6'3 winger who scored 25 goals last year.

Isaac Flashman played 300 minutes at the beginning off the season. mostly Ozone starts. His defensive side and his play away from the puck sucked.
You think he was sent down because of lack of offense? He was sent down to get a certain level on the downside of the puck.
Our bottom 6 was far from good last year ....did we see an extended up of coffee for Howard? Why do you think that might be.
Because the management wanted him to get playing time and he wouldn't have gotten it in Edmonton knowing how Knoblauch was running the icetime.

Howard needs a good opportunity to thrive in an area that suits the strengths of his game. If you plan on running him on the third line, that's likely to see a lot of defensive assignments, will you really be surprised when you see him struggling to put up numbers?

That would be Mangiapane v 2.0. Banking on one 50 point season as what we’d get, and instead it’s the outlier. Would be par for the course with our dumb pro scouts.
Even if he scored you those 50 points, where is he going when you add a real top six winger? Or is he the guy?

Cate's replacement with more upside will be breathing down his neck this year. The footsteps are loud.

Debrusk gives 60-70 percent effort lazy player no fn thx , he also has main character syndrome demanded trade from Boston then dropped it and ask for it again , and now he has done the same on Canucks , would rather have Kane back

Debrusk reminds me of Marc Pouliot ....lots of skill just unable to remain focused for any length of time.

That's an untrue negative bias as to Howard's value - also to that, the landscape has changed drastically. But it was very recently that it would be considered a solid offer to a rebuilding team.

The issue right now is the league has become watered down in top 6 talent, and 29 of the 32 teams have no desire for a rebuild right now - they intend to go for it.

Add in that teams are witnessing what happens to Florida and Vegas when they say 'to hell with futures'.

Not directed at you specifically but I’m a bit perplexed at how much praise Dubas gets.

He seems to “win” some trades on paper but his teams never get anywhere. Dude is overrated as f***

Oilers could have had Dipietro for free last season and was the guy I wanted. Bowman chose to roll with a 34 year old AHL goalie with some of the worst underlying metrics around in Pickard

Yea, Babs is gonna hate Howard. I'm not sure why we pushed so hard for him?

Think people get this backwards. Babcock is going to likely be good for this player, a coach like Knoblauch is really terrible for Howard.

Babcock's good at getting young players to blossom under him, guys like Fippula, Hudler who aren't big took off in Detroit and had 20+ goal seasons. In Toronto, Hyman, Brown, Johnsson (another small guy), Kapanen all hit 20 goals early into their careers under Babcock.

Babcock plays a high tempo attack style that favors skilled players.

Stauffer said he has no idea what’s going to happen. He said all he knows is that everything is riding on Darnell Nurse getting traded first.

Darnell for crying out loud man just expand your liar

Our young guys got almost no opportunities when Knob was coaching. His big move was playing McDrai into the ground like every coach before him.

His offensive system will likely be more like Woodcroft, which makes sense because Woodcroft is Babcock's protege. High tempo, attack oriented, Woodcroft had the best offensive year of the McDavid era. But I think Woody was too fixated on the offence only.
