I wonder if the Pens would do Nurse + Howard for Rakell with retention. They basically get Nurse for the cost of retaining and we free up whatever the difference is between Rakell’s net salary and his ($4M+).

Drai-Rakell then forms the spine of the second line, and we get two years of a reasonable cap hit instead of just one like most rentals.

Now we are talking this is exactly what we need Bowman to do.

All it really takes is for him to say "I'm out of here and Florida is my only destination".

I think Tuch will sign in Anaheim or something but wouldn't be surprised if he just circles back to Buffalo.

Anaheim has way less money than people think $43.5M sounds like a do what ever the F you want kind of money, but just re-signing their guys and filling the holes will have it disappearing quick. Just the L. Carlsson & Gauthier long term extensions should cost them roughly $20M and then on top that they need 5 d-men (Mintyukov and Zellweger likely aren't cheap extensions), 2 forwards, and 1 goalie to fill out their roster. Not saying they can't fit a $9-$10M forward like Tuch, but if they want a good d-core again it won't be easy.

Buffalo is currently out of the running for Tuch, they don't have the capspace for it (Benson is an expensive re-signing), maybe after Byram is traded (and possibly Greenway too), they can re-explore it, but at the moment a Tuch Buffalo reunion is looking very unlikely.

I know this is part of your debbie downer schtick, the Oilers can't get Tuch some other team surely will, but we are well positioned for it, so long as a Nurse cost cutting trade goes through. Crunching the numbers a lot of the top teams that would normally be players for him, aren't well positioned to get into a bidding war for his services.

Not anymore sadly. The league changed how the draft worked last year. It’s now decentralized. None of the GMs/scouts are there anymore

Last year the draft went to a weird new format. Now instead of the team management there to shake hands, they assign a celebrity representative for each club... i was listening on the radio but it sounded beyond dumb.

I guess the NHL got sick of each team sending up 35 representatives and the GM giving a tedious speech thanking everyone before the selection.

Hopefully they improve the delivery. Last year was awful with the awkward zoom calls between the team and the player they selected.
