Paying guys at 30 based off 1 good season is exactly how you get contracts you regret.
Sure, that may be, but with the season he had, the position he plays and the cap increasing by a Darnell Nurse, that's the kind of pay day you're going to get.

Frankly, if he gives the Leafs offense from the blueline, can put up 10+goals and 40+ assists, while playing 20+ competent minutes a night, the Leafs will do well on this deal, imo.

Two concerns with Binnington:

1) Probably has a semi-significant asset cost to acquire even though he was total ass last year
2) That would be a lot of money tied up on the goaltending position for two question marks

But he is a big game performer and has some name value.

The Raddysh deal isn’t thaaaaat far off from the one that dear Jake Walman signed, so I’m not going to be too quick to dunk on it. Same ages, broke in roughly at the same time, Raddysh is a year and 1.5 more but, kinda seems a bit steadier with a unique skill. We’ll see.
It’s the new cap age.

Haha-- that's alright, every one of us on these threads are armchair GMs---its just that the pay is quite a bit less than the real thing.
They have me on CALL BLOCK. Fuk it, I'm joining the Sottish Tartan Army. They can't have no water to drink in Scotland because they sure are drinking over this side of the water

Yeah but career wise.
It's how it goes, he battled hard in the AHL, became a regular and then took a major step when he finally got a significant chance.

He's just living the dream, I hope it works out for him.

Also, looking at his deal on PuckPedia, it's just a straight $8.5M per for the 8 yrs, no trade protection (from what I'm reading) and most importantly no signing bonuses. So it's more manageable to buy out.

Not really, he's a UFA 70pts RHD, that's what that will get you.

Someone was going to do it, for sure. Just big risk paying top dollar/max term for a guy that has a crazy outlier season at 30, with the best coach, passing all night to the Hart trophy winner, and best goalie backstopping him.

Fingers crossed it goes horribly wrong for the Leafs with slug Matthews, bum Hiller and no goalie :)

He also could have been meh in that opportunity, and instead he was great. I don't know, I'm going to hope the guy works out until he doesn't.

Dude's earned it, imo.

Rishaug has been making the same criticisms without sounding like a child, which I think is the issue. Gregor often comes across as sanctimonious while also sounding sort of dumb on these types of issues.

Hes been harsh on them. It the same people who cry about our media not holding the team accountable that cry when he is harsh on them.

Yes, he did what he did with perfect UFA timing, and someone was going to pay him for it. At least the leafs are paying right after he did it, unlike us paying a Frederic for a fluke run 3 years before, completely ignoring years of poop since it happened :)

Just talking about the odds though. There are always guys having crazy outlier career years, some lucky enough to do it when they need a new contract. Always gotta weigh the risks. Combine with my anti-Leafs bias, and sadly, I have to root pretty hard for the bad outcome here

Yup, it would be different if Gregor didn’t talk down to the fanbase like he ALWAYS does

vs milquetoast Rishaug? Like, when has Rishaug ever wrote/said anything that was remotely about holding the GM and ownership accountable.

We all cry how the media protects this group and management, when one person shows some passion, we shit on him.

Turning on Gregor for having the balls to say the truth about this shit hire is peak HF Oil. Wow.

Anytime the organization does something he doesn’t like or someone disagrees he becomes an arrogant cry baby.

I also can’t stand when media tries to push their narrative. He of course brings a Commodore on who hates Babs with every cell in his body but does he talk to any of the long list of players that liked playing for him? No.

Frank did the same thing to the some extent. Quick to say some anonymous agent was concerned about his players playing for Babcock, for all we know this agent could have 3 players. Meanwhile not a peep when 2 heavy hitter agents came out and said their players have no problem playing for him.

The difference is Frank isn’t acting like Babcock went into his house and stretched out his slippers.
