Ungar's new one year deal is a good one for the club. It's also a 2 way contract which is an added bonus?

Question though--if he gets cut after training camp, is he waiver eligible or not?

Leafs are stuck in an awkward spot where they need to take risks. They cant rebuild because their next 2 1sts are unprotected and gone.

Theres still a lot of concerns for that roster. You cant expect a big rookie season from McKenna. Your 1C is often injured. Your 2C is more of a 3C at this point in his career.

I expect they'll go hard after Jenner and Tuch

True, need to make a splash to excite fans that next season isn't going to be a writeoff and just a development season for McKenna.

Hopefully they keep handing out more top dollar long term deals to 30+ guys that take them to near 40 :)

There was no way a player with not even a whole lot of AHL-experience was going to get anything but a two-way deal.

Ungar has at least another two years of waiver exemption left, unless he plays 60 NHL games prior to that.

But when you are dealing with GM Stan, assume nothing.

I’m not sure about the contract but the Leafs needed to upgrade their defense and there’s not a lot available d wise.

They got one of the better options but I don’t think this contract is going to age well.

Yeah exactly. I think Walman is a good comparable and he's better than Walman albeit a little older.
I'd love to poke fun at the Leafs but I don't think this is a bad risk for them.
Based of 1 season? Hell be lucky to put up 50 pts again and at 30 its about to go down hill for the majority of that contract

It usually seems that Gms in the NHL are oblivious to previous examples and other teams mistakes.

Make the salary cap 200M per year and in a few seasons there will be teams that top out.

It's been an issue since 1967.
They definitely put the I in Incompetent. Chayka already had some baggage from his previous GM stint in Arizona and Toronto still hires him. Not sure if Hillier was the right hire either. But wtf do I know, I'm just an armchair GM trying to get hired by the Oilers and they wont even hire me. Go figure

With Carlson, Gudas, and Trouba all possibly not returning to the Ducks you worry they will make an offer on Connor Murphy.

If we can't retain he we might run with a defense worse than anything we've iced for a number of seasons.

Haha-- that's alright, every one of us on these threads are armchair GMs---its just that the pay is quite a bit less than the real thing.

That's why Stan needs to be patient with Nurse. Murphy maybe asking already who am I playing with if you are trading Nurse.
