I heard the same argument when it came to Blackwood. If you watch both they are clearly just better goalies than Skinner. I think Gibson would look amazing behind this roster. Could be wrong but a gamble is needed.

In Floridas system you just need to take up space...get in the way.
Jones is significantly bigger and more rangey than Montour. He is also capable of playing a lot more minutes compared to Montour.
Looks like an upgrade to me.
Florida upgrades...Oilers downgrade. Not a good trend.

Agreed about Chucky though.

Florida takes away time and space and plays physical. The latter is not Jones' game.

$9 - $10m? Even optimistic projections for those extensions look like $9m + $2m. Add in Gibson at $6.4m and that's just shy of the whole $18m.

Yes, I understand that moving out players will be necessary to make the salary work, regardless of the direction the team chooses to go. But that also means you're opening up additional roster spots that need to be filled.

So, again, how are you markedly improving that roster if you're filling half of it with guys making league minimum?

Well as of right now they haven't had Kane for the entire season and Brown + Henrique + Arvidsson + Skinner have essentially given them close to league minimum production for the price of 15M. I think that's probably a good place to start if you're looking for upgrades with moving cap out.

This is the reason Edmonton will not win for the foreseeable future. Not being a Debbie Downer. Edmonton lacks a true #1 goalie (Stu's mental breakdown last year is one of the things I am pointing to), we lack sizeable D that make you pay the price and have long sticks to break up plays, we are way too soft, and we lack the ability to play the game within the game (reference to what Florida just did with Tkachuckles).

I could get off Stu's back if Katz decided pay attention to this team and order Schwartzie gone. Continues to blow my noodle how this idiot savant has avoided natural selection. You know, Jeff Jackson had one job, make last year's nucleus better. Instead, he deconstructed it. I took the bait and was amazed. I love how many here are whining we didn't get Seth Jones and make it sound like he's some Top 1-2 dman. He is NOT the same Dman since his Columbus days, and even then, he wasn't anywhere near as good as he should have been. Florida gave up a 1st and Spencer Knight. This is the dilemma. If you’re going after Gibson, you need to have a guy who can step in and play because of his past.

Binnington stays pretty healthy. I’d be okay with sending Skinner in return as part of the package for him.

Hiring a still working player agent whose main objective was to maximize his clients salary; a guy who has no experience in the workings of hockey club management, to be the head Boss indicates all you should need to know about this Clubs priorities.

Montour is smaller but he plays big boy hockey and is a pita to play against. Jones for his size is pretty soft IMO.

It just is not in the DNA of the Oilers to act so quickly. Especially given that Jackson has such a close relationship with McDavid.
