Mark Spector at his best View attachment 985549
I suspect that Spector does not really understand the cap implications. The best case scenario for the Oilers would be that they knew 100% for sure that Kane was out. That would effectively make him a free add for the playoffs and they could still use his space. Technically they my have a few more dollars if they deal him but we are talking less than 30K.

Seriously
Nope.

So chances are pretty good that Kane starts serious skating and practice soon. And likely we won't be able to trade him without serious retention.
So we keep him? And to make any changes we have to do hockey trades?
Based on what? He had his whole upper core rebuilt and has just put on skates (no equipment) to what would be equivalent to a skate at WEM’s ice palace. He has done no strength training, he is still doing rehab. He isn’t even remotely close to full skating. Hell, there have been no reports that he’s been on the ice since that first initial skate

If Kane is dealt the team must really be tired of him.
I think after the drama during the Stanley cup final when they scratched him and he made an issue of it, that was it for thin as an Oiler.

Hence why he opted to enjoy his summer rather than get his needed surgery.

You know Donato would be 3rd on the team in hits and be 3rd goals for potentially 1 million aav if you get him 50%. He does get PP1 time though, so his points could be a total wash.
CHI has used all 3 of their retention slots, that also goes for NSH and SJ so if there is anyone you want from those teams we have to accept them at their full cap-hit (unless you bring in a 3rd party to eat salary).

Eh. He was telling the media he was hurt literally days before the playoffs started. Was complaining about his ice time. I wouldn’t be surprised if the team was trying to get him to have surgery last December to have him ready for last playoffs.

He might not be as effective after surgeries.

His play style is suited for big boy hockey. I don’t think he’ll be as truculent after all the repairs he got. There’s a lot wear and tear on him and maybe BoJack thinks they’ve extracted as much juice out of him already.

I’m not suggesting he’s done as a player but he’ll take it easy on the body. He is after all, a family man.

Kane doesn't strike me as the type to mail it in.

Like he was still trying to play in the playoffs when he couldn't even sit down on the bench.

Florida takes away time and space and plays physical. The latter is not Jones' game.
I get what you are saying about them being physical but aside from their forecheck (where they are very physical) they are not overly physical when defending in their own zone.

They just dont give you anything. Its all about congestion...everything is contested.
They make you earn every scoring chance by getting in lanes and taking away time and space.

Jones is a better skater than Montour and he is a bigger body with more range.
Perfect for that defenisve system IMO.

Thats how I see it anyway...we shall see how it plays out.

They’re gonna have to change their goaltending regardless if they want to make a deep run for the cup this playoffs. The Oilers cannot afford to run back this current tandem again.

f***ing bruuuuuuuuuutal.

Look at Gibsons numbers since 2018/19...the definition of brutal.

As I said I dont want change for the sake of change...I want clear upgrades regardless of position..

I think it would be wise to move Kane, as long as you don’t have to pay to do it.

How’s he really going to look when he comes back? He’s not getting any younger and he’s missed a lot of time. He’s had some really bad luck with injuries, I honestly thought he’d be a 40+ goal scorer with us, only slowing to 30 around the age he’s at now.

It would be a miracle if he came back for the playoffs and could skate, check, shoot, do anything at an NHL level.

For me Arvidsson and Kane are on the block.

Okay let me word this differently for you...Suppose Kane has gone to management and says i want to play as soon as possible... If we still have Kaner post deadline and he starts skating towards the end of march and wants to play the final 7 or 8 games cause he knows he is along way from game shape....
If this is what you believe as Stan Bowman and you find that to be able to trade him pre deadline you have to retain 50 percent....whats your move.?
I will suggest to you alot of hockey players want to play hockey as soon as they can.
All this suppostion might just be BS as the doctors and/or team therapists might convince him to wait as long as possible.
Frankly i think its more than possible he will be on the ice within three weeks skating circles practicing lines ....stops and starts to begin with.
If we still have him, though i think there are a couple of teams who would value what he brings still in his 30's, don't think he sees a game in the first playoff series. And if he plays in the second series its bottom 6 cycle and pass and skate--his timing and stamina won;t work for primetime.

I got what you’re saying and I’m going to debate hyperboles. Fact is that he has been in the ice exactly once for a leisurely skate. He has yet to finish his rehab, then strength train, but then full skates, then practice with the team. Realistically, he is 34 years old. I highly doubt he’ll be in full game shape in what- 5 weeks? Not going to happen. No one even knows how is body is going to react to playing NHL games (he had a ton of work done on his upper core). I would be shocked if he is even practicing with the team when the playoffs start.

For me too. I’d add Janmark, Kapanen, and Klingberg.

He’s being shopped now that his NMC turned into a 16 team list.

I’m wondering if BoJack is trying to dump his contract like how Puljujarvi was dumped to Carolina. That freed up cap space in turn landed us Ekholm.

If he wants to get in game shape he can accept a conditioning stint in the AHL. With an agreed upon extension he could get about 6 games in. Of course there is a risk that the NHL could deny the extension.

I think the insiders are using "shopped" pretty loosely.

They need to do their due diligence and find out their options, but the best case scenario is still him coming back Game 1 of the playoffs.

Guaranteed that the Rat is back for game 83. Florida just taking a page out of the Vegas/Lightning playbook.

But remember, the NHL is keeping a close eye on the Kane situation. f***ing joke of a league implementing its "rules".

If Katz cared about winning more than playing real life Monopoly he would threaten the NHL with an injunction if they opted to get involved here. It’s clearly anti-competitive to punish/scrutinize one team over all others, especially when said team is the only one in a different country.

Alas he won’t because Daryl doesn’t have the stones.
