Capitals looking like they could blow things up and be sellers this year. 7 points out of a wildcard spot now, and a goal differential of -34. Woof. 3-6-1 their last 10 games. Jensen at 50% and Dowd would save the Oilers 750k or so if
Ceci was moved out for a pick. I’d guess that costs about what Toronto paid for McCabe at 50% and Lafferty at the deadline last year. Broberg, 2nd, and Lavoie would be my prediction.

It feels to me like no one has shown they can score/beat them with Hill in net.

13-2-2 record this year, what was his playoff record? Through 3 playoff rounds last year, he only lost 4 times total, in our series, we only beat him 1 time after he entered the series.

We've played the Knights with Hill in five games from last playoffs onwards and lost 4/5 times.

I'm not sure anyone can beat these guys right now, beating them 4 out of 7 games is going to be tall order. They were already a good team before, they managed to somehow add a goalie that plays at a .935 rate for them. We need some adds at the deadline that would change this dynamic.
Lets be honest, Vegas really isn't THAT good. I know they won the Cup and they're formidable but they aren't some Mt. Everest that needs to be climbed. They're a solid vet team that is incredibly opportunistic and is solid defensively when they need to close games but they aren't some team that overwhelms opponents.

With that said, and I've (we've) said this for a few years, Ceci is the real sore spot on this team. He plays reasonably well regular season hockey but his pairing (and I call it the Ceci pairing because Nurse has been fine) is the one that has gotten caved in their last two series losses to Colorado and Vegas. The 1st and 3rd pairings are good, very good, even. It's that Ceci spot that sticks out like a sore thumb.

I do think the Oilers can win a Cup with Ceci in that role as long as they get very high level goaltending but I don't think we can bank on Skinner being a guy that steals playoff games, he needs some insulation, so I think a Ceci upgrade should be the main objective this deadline. If that guy just isn't available then they must add a top 6 goal scorer or high level #3C to add scoring depth, somebody like Boone Jenner if at all possible. The time is now.

Barabanov would be a sneaky good add since the price is probably next to nothing.

He's a guy that would probably be a good fit with Drai too. Good two-way guy that's strong on retrievals, but a solid passer and puck carrier too.
Who would he displace on this roster though? He has three goals this season.

Them and the Avs are the teams that scare me in the west.

I dunno I think they might just be that good.

We’ve played pretty much all the top teams the last two years … IMO I haven’t seen a back end as good as theirs (D with Hill in) for a while. Defensively they give up little and they may have somehow found a Vezina tier goalie from nothing.

McDavid is the only forward scoring on Hill, Hyman and RNH can barely piss a drop, Draisaitl and Kane have been shut out full stop in 5 games against Hill.

Even Colorado 2022, we were able to break loose and put some goals on the board.

Hyman and RNH are neutered always by Vegas.

With the current roster of forwards, this is what I would like to see.

Draisaitl McDavid Hyman
Kane RNH Perry
Holloway McLeod Foegele

This can change if we find a suitable winger for Draisaitl. Kane and Perry can provide some corner work for RNH, who gets pushed off too many pucks.

You’re acting like it’s a chasm of difference between these two teams when really the difference is razor thin, it doesn’t take much for that to reverse, especially when you consider the age of Vegas best players and the fact that long seasons are likely to wear on them more.

This reminds me a lot of the year before last where Markstrom and Calgary had our number in the regular season, we got them in the second round and many fans didn’t think we had a chance. They beat us first game and everyone melted down and then we came back and beat them four straight and have owned them ever since.

When things are this close it doesn’t take much for trends to reverse.
Or the team dominating Winnipeg all year and losing in the first round. Sometimes shit just happens.

And Leaf fans wonder why the rest of the hockey world hates their guts.

The all star break really made their talking heads go a little nuts. It is all about how McDavid seemed really happy to be in Toronto and we saw his family there and all that.

Literally meaningless. Connor also shoe horned in talking up the Oilers and Edmonton whenever it made sense

Draisaitl and Kane have 0 goals against Hill in the last 5 games against him. RNH has 1, Hyman has 1.

McDavid has 4.

Only 1 guy here is pulling his weight against them.
Keep in mind the Oilers have been losing to back up goalies in the playoffs. Adin Hill won't be a back up so he won't be Oilers kryptonite

Drai needs to play with another player who isn't an immediate turnover whenever they have to handle the puck in any area that isn't a scoring position.

The steady diet of Kane, Foegele, Brown is really limiting his effectiveness because he has to do 100% of the playmaking on his own. It's no surprise he looked way better with McLeod.
The answer to all our problems is Giroux, C.

I thought Laughs fans and their jock-sniffing media were supposed to be body language experts? He was happy because his version of the All Star Events was a success, and he won the solo event. The bolded is also true in addition to him actively going around attempts from idiots like Amber to sound "pro Leaf"

The Oilers say no. That is too much for a rental winger. If he had term and fit within the cap it might make sense. But I'd rather they spend a lot less and go for a guy like Tarasenko.

Going into last night Nuge had 4 goals and 9 assist for 13 points in his last 10 regular season games vs Vegas. Neither guy looked like themselves in the playoffs. I am pretty sure Hyman was hurt and there were reports that Nuge was as well.
