Not directed to the OP, but I’m sure the team could load up with Wayne, Mario, Gordie, Bobby, Dominick and some folks would bitch. Some people can’t be happy. :)
I'd likely be on of those bitching, considering all of those guys are well over 50, and one of them is deceased.;)

All your 7th rounders belong to us!! Maybe we can find another 7th round gem like Vinny.

Too funny. When I typed my note, I actually wondered how long it would be before that exact comment was made. (Took longer than I thought).

not sure where anyone said anything at all like that

its just plain stupid to keep kearing "Broberg and Holloway are not available for upgrades" and then have them buried in the AHL and keep giving them 4th line minutes while you spend assets on "upgrades" for a 7th D
They wanted a vet #7 Dman for a win now Cup run and needed a RHD. Broberg is neither of those.

I think Technically, we can recall Holloway for the rest of the year, send him down for game 82, and we would be able to absorb 1 mill of Browns overage.

This post wont age well.
It may and may not time will tell. I see Broberg right now as a guy much like Benson. He has had every opportunity to grab a spot and hasn’t done enough to keep it. Where as Holloway is more like Pitlick he’s good when in but can’t stay healthy long enough to gel.

Vinny was drafted 8 years ago. People need to chill with this drafted 4 years ago thing. Lots of our prospects are already knocking on doors. If we weren't contenders, they would be playing full time.
You know how incredibly rare it is to make the NHL as a legit player 8 years past your draft right?

I looked it up a long time ago. USually for first round draft picks if they aren't full time NHLers in what would be Brobergs current year, almost none of them have been more than AHL tweeners, bottom pairing defense.

Foegele, Ceci, Kulak even Vinny might not be Oilers.

Brogberg, Holloway, Lavoie could be full time Oilers next season.
so we'll have "not even a 7th dman" in Broberg in our starting roster next year? wonderful news and a fickle Holloway?

gives them 8 months to get ready when the last 5 haven't been enough

Well thats why they are both in the AHL now. Org doesn't think they are quite ready, so they grab a 7 d to finish the season so Broberg can stay in the AHL and be the 8th guy. Same with Holloway.

I think it's much more Broberg and Holloway are the 7th and 13th respectively. If something were to happen to McLeod or Kulak, those two are going to get into the lineup over Stecher or Brown.

But if you can have them still available without effecting the cap or roster limit, it makes more sense to maximize your depth. The Stanley Cup is the goal, and they've got as good a shot at winning it as any other team. That cup takes priority over giving a young guy a cup of coffee as an injury fill-in at the NHL level.

They were two injuries from Gleason/Niemo/Kemp making their playoff debut, now it's 3. This way the also have a fallback option on the right side if something happens to Bouch/Ceci/Vinny that not just Kemp or hoping a LHD can adjust on the fly to their offside.

The Oilers are trying to make a run to the Cup, they decided they didn't want kids holding down 7th defense and 4C spots. Which really makes sense.

The Oilers can still use those players, if need be as well.

Here is the thing about 7th d and 13/14th forwards. You need them to be vets who are used to the only playing once in a while. Its really difficult to just jump in after weeks of not playing and not look like fools. Its a learned skill and young players and prospects don't have that. A guy like Stetcher is used to that. Like you don't want Broberg as your 7th d cause after the first injury you have a guy who hasn't played in like a month having to be game ready. Much better to keep that young guy in the AHL so he is playing constantly before being needed.

And again, I think nothing of Broberg.
