I still wouldn't hate Barabanov.

He's having a shit year, but it would be nice to have someone in the bottom six that can pass. We have lots of shooters and speedsters down there, but not many guys that can actually carry the puck and make a pass. He'd probably be a decent bump to the 3rd line at RW. They've got enough PKers now to not worry about moving Perry down to #4RW and losing Ryan/Brown too.

Because he's the only name out there who is both rumored to be available and has a recent history of success playing in the top 4.

The people don't want Carrier specifically they want an upgrade on Ceci and he looks to be about it for options.

Lemieux on waivers. Probably no better than Janmark but was always a pain in the ass to play against when he was in LA.

Based only on what I have seen I think he would be a good option on a contending team to play the pest role. I thought he was very good against us in the 2022 playoffs.

Having said that - if there is a pest player that should theoretically be of value to a playoff team, but keeps getting jettisoned by playoff teams, there is probably some sort of problem there. Can't remember who it was that publicly said something to the effect of "whatever all his teammates hate him," but one can only assume they were right.

Tbf, they were the best team in the league before making that move. The other teams will be making moves, they're just not following the trend of making deals early.

Next to no offense? He is tied for 50th in the league for defense 5v5 points with 16, that’s good for 3rd on our team and that’s a team that averages almost half a goal /60 5v5 less than us.
He is big enough to bust cycles. We have a very large dcore, having a guy who is 5’11” isn’t going to hurt us. Especially if he is replacing a guy who isn’t really physical anyways.

Looks like a lateral move at best. Perhaps more speed but much less size. Offense is lateral. Defense looks lateral. Overall, it's a lateral move. I think I'd rather stand pat on that move personally. Save the assets. If it was a clear upgrade then absolutely.
