It's not necessarily 2 or 3. Extend McDavid and it extends for another 5 yrs+ even without Draisaitl.
We are struggling with the cap as is, you really think we would have success with a worse McDavid making more money?

That ROR trade is ugly. But, Holland needs to offload some futures for a good veteran D man.

The team basically has to win the cup within the next 2-3 years or McDavid walks. Good thing we have Ken "stand-pat" Holland at the helm to do absolutely nothing and cap-out the team with useless 3M wingers.

Defense upgrade? Ken can't manage that, it's a "cap in cap out league" and "you can't just squeeze guys".

If we don’t win a Cup why would McDavid stay?

Because the players are automatons apparently and are more than happy to let Holland learn on year 5+ of the job while they waste their careers. Seems totally logical to me.

Its always next year. Can't make a major move because of some sort of excuse.
Can't f***ing tell me that its dollar in dollar out as an excuse if Kyle Dubas was able to make a major trade despite the leafs being in a cap crunch themselves.

At this point we know we have them for 3 more playoff runs. Your right it could be extended but that’s what we know.

I'm sorry, but it's delusional to believe this. Why would McDavid stay to play for a franchise (and management) that failed to build a quality team around him for the prior 11 years. He gave the team loyalty with an 8 year contract and he expects the management to do their job competently and provide him with support.

Obviously they have not done this and he can choose his next destination to maximize his chances of winning the cup.

Hey Ken, this is what all in means:

Finding a way to improve the team to win by trading away assets that will take years to develop.
Meanwhile we're still keeping Puljujarvi, because we don't want to lose him for free. Yet the coach played him a total of 8 mins tonight, so what's the point of having a 3M bottom 6 player that barely plays? By doing so, they had to move Holloway/Desharnais down to fit in Yama (pretty much nearly non-existent tonight) and our PK cratered even more without Desharnais. Just stupid decisions by Ken Holland bleeding potential wins.

Holland added Kane against all odds when we had no cap space using up LTIR...
What exactly do you expect him to do?

And that was a good move, it panned out. The Oilers offense and team was lit on fire with Kane's addition. I have no problem with that or Hyman. Those were two excellent moves by Ken Holland.
But what about now? The Oilers defense is f***ing bad, but the pacific division is still there for the Oilers to win. This team shouldn't require another 2 weeks heading to the TDL to make a major move to improve the back end. Or do we need to continue bleeding points as we go through more games with Nurse and Ceci?

Move out Yamamoto and Pulju, usd a 3rd team to retain. Something. He put us in this cap hell with a flawed team. It’s his responsibility to fix it.

If Dubas can make a 3rd team retain salary from the ROR trade by moving out a damn 4th round pick in 2025 as an exchange, then why can't Ken Holland?
No more excuses, seriously.

Lets say in a dream scenerio the Oilers got Chychrun. This guy would make Nurse look like a chump. How do you then keep him when Dumbnell makes 9.25? Why would any D brought here that kicks Nurse's a** ever take less than him?

So you think he would go to COL , TOR or TB because of their cup success? It's a cap world and unless he plans on playing for league minimum there will be parity in the league.

This management locked up his buddies in Hyman, Nurse and Nuge for long term. I'm sure he had a part to play in us acquiring Kane and Campbell as well.. unless Oilers tear it down CHI style chances of McD staying are pretty good.

There would be other attractive options. A team like Buffalo may not look great now but in 2 years they would have cap space for both McDavid AND Drai, and have Tage Thompson locked in for cheap, and have a legit actual no.1 Norris caliber D in Dahlin and maybe a very good no.2 in the making in Power. And Buffalo is very close to Toronto and McDavid's family.

The Oilers shouldn't act like they have that on lock at all. Make the Finals is the minimum bar for the next 3 years or shut the f*** up Oilers, no one wants to hear why you couldn't do it.
