8 years of Connor McDavid, and the Oilers are still struggling to be a cup winning team.
Excuses, my f***ing ass. The kissassers of Ken Holland do the same old shit like they did with Chiarelli.
They should be steamrolling the f***ing division, if not the conference or league by now. Instead, just chilling as a wild card team, blowing huge leads, no killer instinct.

You’d rather a Gm with zero playoff wins?

you are too emotional man, grab a beer and relax.

I'm amazed that's what you get from it, good god!

I could give a rats ass that the leafs can't make it out of the first round. The point is that their GM who's teams was under a cap crunch was able to make a major move regardless to improve his team for the playoffs. He was able to use assets for a 3rd team to retain salary in order for it to fit under their cap.
Why can't Ken Holland do the same? Why is it dollar in dollar out, Karlsson unlikely until summer, and being minor moves that will do f*** all like Ghostbear or Lafferty? God forbid some fans want our GM to be more proactive and assertive rather than hold back and be a passive f***ing GM.

I agree, but would like to see them pay a little more for some earlier help while they're struggling instead. Could be a rough couple of weeks in the meantime.
I get it. We all (including myself) expected something today and it didn't happen the way we thought. But I highly doubt Holland will keep the roster at 20 skaters long. But again, I will not overreact. It's not the place nor time to do that.

I don't think Holland has been a terrible GM. In particular I think he can take a fair share of the credit for the teams championship caliber forward depth.

I just want him to see what is so dead obvious to everyone else and recognize that his window is now, his prospects that wont be in the league before 2026 don't matter, and his defense needs a significant upgrade.

It’s needed a significant upgrade since the day he arrived and it hasn’t gotten better.

I think the true window is next season when Bouchard, Broberg,Skinner, McLeod, Holloway, Desharnais etc are a year wiser and we still have the core intact

Just a theory, but I wonder if the Oilers didn't want to pull the trade today to not overshadow the Ben Stelter 50 50, and wanted to wait until tomorrow to do it. Makes perfect sense to me.

I dont think anyone is arguing that we need to try and win now. I hope the Oilers go all in but that doesnt mean you throw away you best assets for rentals.
The Oilers are going to have to accept that their window to win is very small. They aren’t built to be a dynasty like the Lightning. They’ve blown so many opportunities on half-assed measures.

Our core is locked up long term so how is the window to win so small?

We have 4 more shots at the cup with McDavid on his current deal. That's the window. I hope we start going for it every year and trade our 1st round picks for guys like EK65 or JC. Getting 30 games out of Foligno and now RoR just seems incredibly short sighted.

Does he really though? We were never rumored to be in on Tarasenko or O'Reilly, and in the end, increases our chances at the bigger fish (Kane, Karlsson, Laffety, etc.). We have 2 more weeks. People need to relax. He will have something.
We were rumoured on O’Reilly.
The issues is cap is at a huge premium this year and you can only retain on too many contracts. The longer you wait the less likely it is you can make a trade with ANY retention which is something we absolutely need.

With proper management this team would be squarely within the early to mid stages of their winning window. With the cap mismanagement from Chia and Holland, I'd wager the Oilers really only have the next 2-3 years before the thousand cuts will catch up and the McDrai extensions (assuming they want to play for these idiots) nuke the roster and redline the cap.

Thing that pisses me off is Holland figures McDavid is LeBron and he's going to win a ton of games all by himself with minimal extra help needed. The first clue should be Gretzky. He won f*** all after leaving Edmonton.

If there's no Desharnais on Sunday ... enjoy your 2 free PP goals Colorado.
Just 2? I'm setting the over/under on Avalanche powerplays at 7.5 right now.
