So the emergence of Broberg had had zero effect on that? Also that was a weak stretch of the schedule. Way too small sample size. I like Vinny but he's not moving the dial that much.

Not as much IMO, because Broberg was on the team for several games before Desharnais ... the decline in GA only corresponds with Desharnais being here, not Broberg.

He only has a mere 1 assist in the last 8 games with an average of 15+ mins TOI. Need more from him, especially when he's been in games on a top 6.
I'd like to see some more offense from Janmark too. I'd especially like to see him knocked down a line or two, I agree he needs to do more. But I would hate to risk losing him on waivers. We'll need quality depth players come playoff time.

I think that's cherry picking a bit. The decline in GA is entirely because of one rookie who plays 12 minutes a game? Desharnais has been very good, but let's not crown him king prematurely.

This is a year where really, you don't want your rival getting a top 4 pick cause all four are pretty elite.

Fantilli would be a 1st overall pick most years.
All the talk is Bedard. I couldn't tell you who is the consolation prizes from #2 to #5-lol.

Janmark is one of our top PK forwards, not sure they'd ever waive him. Waiving him before JP would be absolute insanity.

Interesting day for sure. Half the board losing their shit because 2 rookies get sent down. LOL.

Holloway should have been sent down months ago. Vinny well thats not great but that's how the business works. Suck it up sunshines.
The board is pissed because the non productive overpaid winger should have been waived weeks ago to allow for some cap flexibility to, you know, ice your best roster. Not because two rookies were demoted.

I don't understand people who want to move Bouchard. He's 23 and already one of the best even strength offensive and transition Dmen in the league. Defensively, he's been much better the last 2.5 months, and his TOI vs elite competition has actually increased. He has his warts, but he's almost guaranteed to be a homegrown, top pair offensive Dman by the time he's 26.

It's an awful funny coincidence then the team is suddenly better at defending when they actually add a hard as nails defender who doesn't do stupid, unforced things with the puck isn't it?

Even from the eye test alone, IMO he made the Oilers a fair bit better defensively.

Fantilli is widely discussed he was also on CAN WJC. But there are actually a slough of guys considered to have star potential, and its a deep draft. Might be one of the best.

Would be interested to look at Nurse for that age

I think Gregor said it best it's not about wanting to move on from the guy, but if you are making an impact trade you have to give something up.

We traded Brewer for Pronger, not because we wanted to but because we had to give something up.

Broberg is getting better. Easier schedule too. Campbell playing better. Vinny is good but he's no Chara.

Broberg's emergence has helped with that too. He has helped. He's been very good. I would never say he hasn't, but I'm expecting you to start talking about how he walks on water before turning it to wine next, ha ha.

I dont want to discount VD's contribution but this team is absolutely bipolar and has had major up and down stretches dating back several years. The stretch he has been in for has also mostly been against the weaker teams in the league, and the goaltending has been less embarassing. Remember that several months into the season Campbell was literally a bottom 3 goalie in the NHL in Sv%. Rancid. Itll take playing well for the rest of the year to even get back to .900 for him.

If people are wondering how the Oilers are going to fit Karlsson in, I would suggest Parayko will be almost as difficult. Of course, even with retention Karlsson will be a higher cap hit, but I don’t see the Blues retaining a dime on Parayko for 8 years
Both are massively difficult, low likelihood deals to make in season.

St. Louis is accelerating fast out of its winning window. Believe they've talked about taking salary back this year which is the first step in any deal being viable for the majority of NHL competitive teams. So first step is offloading equivalent money this season. Beyond? Who knows how the roster can be reset which it does need to prune some expensive bottom roster options. Would St. Louis retain on Parayko, who knows, they haven't been in seller mode forever. Cap space is King in the Covid Cap era.

I view Parayko and Karlsson as optimal 1A considerations for d-men in very different ways who could move the needle for the Oilers in this three year winning window. Worth long and lengthy investigation. Holland and the Blues GM have recent trade history to work from.

I don't know all the insiders are all over the god damn place as of late.

Also how are insiders going to get information without leaks? That's literally the only way rumors come about.

Think you have to ask around the rest of the league, agents, other teams insiders. Oilers media guys used to have it easy just getting into from the source. Now they have to actually get creative and depend on relationships more. Also could lean on educated guesses and general knowledge of players and the league, but most Oilers media are just totally out to lunch and can only provide terrible takes based on their own biases.

I don't think anyone is wanting to take Bouchard out behind the barn and shoot him here. He looks good, but not perfect. I do think calling him a "guaranteed" top pair defenseman might be premature. Really, he could top out as a Barrie, or lower.

Nurse is a very valuable #2 or 3, his big downfall is his contract. But at 6-7 million, 32 teams would love to have him. If Bouchard tops out as a #2 offensive dman, we'd all be elated.

Also, people were infatuated with Nurse because he was a big, physical body who could skate, but never was a good passer or playmaker. Bouchard can make transition passes and make plays at an elite level, which is imperative for defensemen in this era. Big, big difference between the two in terms of skill and offensive IQ.
