5-7?
I give it 1-2.

I called it after Endgame.
It's a directionless as Star Wars is with Rey.

I'm a pretty die-hard Marvel fan, and I've already passed on several shows and movies, and the few they did attempt to translate from the comics, they managed to really f*** up.

Every new character they introduce seems to be some form of a Mary Sue.
None of them have the sense of loss that the original Avengers had, none of them EARNED their stripes or went through a trauma or growth like the original Avengers did.

Nope! every character is perfect in every way, and need no change or growth, they're all just pristine. Every hero now is flawless (like Superman) which makes for just about the dullest character arcs imaginable.

Batman was always more filmable because he clearly has PTSD.
Every MCU character from Iron Man to Endgame suffered immense loss and character growth from Spiderman, Iron Man, Captain America, to Guardians of the Galaxy, and the only Phase 5 Character that worked (Shang Chi). You know.. the HEROES JOURNEY.

Outside of Guardians of the Galaxy, I think the rest of these will flop:

Couldn't have said it better myself. All the good movies have the hero's going thru some type of struggle and growing from it. With Star Wars they had zero back story for Rey, made her perfect at everything right away and even had her beat Kylo Ren in the first movie, a sith that's been training since he was a kid. That's like someone putting on a pair of skates for the first time and beating current Mcdavid in a one on one game.

Without a move, its going to be questionable if the team even makes the playoffs

If that happens, one would think Ken would be gone

"I think Edmonton has really looked at it. Ken Holland is looking at some big stuff." - Elliotte talking about Patrick Kane on the podcast

Well cant say that Holland isnt trying to do things. Seems like hes exhausting all avenues. Hopefully doesnt get left holding a bag at the end. (or spend a lot of assets for middling upgrades).

Well something has to happen today right? If Holloway and Desharnais are going down I will be very disappointed.

At least we'll know something in a few hours or whatever.

Please elaborate because I look at the team he inherited vs the team we have now and I know what one I would rather have.
Woo wee he's better than the 2nd worst GM in NHL history!

Just among the highlights: Jack Campbell and just goaltending in general, bridging Nurse straight to UFA and then bending over to give that bloated contract b/c Hughes now had all the leverage, overpaying for Kass and paying a 2nd/3rd to dump him halfway through, taking on the Duncan Keith cap dump without getting back a 1st round pick, AA for Gagner+2 2nds.

Both the Flames and Minny are mediocre this season (I expected the Flames to be... but I thought Minny would be a little better than they are).

Saying that though... it's not hard for those teams to put together a bit of a run and the Oilers to string together a few losses and suddenly its looking pretty desperate.

Oilers need to keep that better goaltending going (and it's starting to look a little leaky again) as well as keep the better defensive structure going (not having Desharnais in the lineup sure doesn't help there).

Also another issue is merchandising. Nobody is buying anymore Marvel merchandise outside of Spiderman who is always popular.

How many Eternals toys/posters being bought. Shang Chi anyone buy those toys.

I listen to people on youtube, many mainstream magazines won't give you that information.

Valliant Renegade talks specifically finances. Watch his clips.
Can this talk not be taken elsewhere?

Announce this today you cowards

Deal 1

TO MTL: Puljujarvi & 2023 5th round pick

TO EDM: Vegas' 2023 4th round pick and CGY's 2023 5th round pick

Now the big one.

TO SJ: Barrie, Foegele, Schafer, 2023 1st (unprotected & unconditioned) & 2025 1st (top-4 protected on the condition Karlsson plays 60% of the games in 2023 & 2024, if not it's top-10 protected. If protected, they get a 2026 1st)

TO EDM: Karlsson ($5M retained), Svechkinov (roster reasons) & Timur Ibrgimov (contract reasons, plays in the ECHL)

I think cost should be like 2 first + Barrie + whatever else. People keep acting like Barrie is a cap dump. He should have a 2nd+ round value plus imo.

Stop with the superhero movie crap and stay on topic :sarcasm:......so after the first three pages of the thread I had to drive 25 min last night to Arbys

I think team's have interest in Puljujarvi and do see value in him. That's why Holland isn't just going to give him away for nothing. Even if it's a 3rd or 4th round pick that's an assets that can put us ahead of another teams bid on a player.

I've given up on Karlsson for today...

Yes, better we don’t have Nurse.
Btw, Kane, Hyman, Broberg, Ceci, Hopkins, Kulak, Barrie, Kosygin all say hi. As do all the draft picks and developing players such as Macleod that some many of the real smart guys wanted to move.
yep. Smart.

Yeah lets send down our best or second best defenceman (at actually playing defence) so we can keep Puljujarvi (useless) around.

It's not like we're playing (checks notes) the Rangers and Avalanche next.

Real smart Kenny.

Yeah it makes no sense. Holloway, sure I get it, he is younger and would be playing mondo mins in the AHL on a scoring line. Holloway is young enough that he still has lots to learn in the AHL. I think he's been "fine" in the NHL, but the A might actually be the better place for him,

Vinny makes no sense at all, in any way whatsoever. Send one of the forward plugs down, like Shore, or whatever.

Holland is actually making the team worse. Sending down two productive players to make room for a very marginal player is so Oilers.
I know, sending down two productive players because he can't trade Puljujarvi is making the team worse.

That Duncan Keith cap dump you refer to got the oilers to the WCF for the first time in almost 20 years. AA would have been qualified if the cap hadn’t become flat when the world stopped. The cap was set to go up almost 10 million dollars the following year or is that something you forgot? The 10 million would have meant a longer term deal for Nurse around 6-7 million. NJ,CHI and CBS set the new market value for top pairing d men that summer not Holland. He was forced to pay market value or let Darnell walk. Imagine our blue line without nurse for a second please. Campbell I will give you as he is far too streaky to justify his dollars but Skinners deal evens it out a bit more.

He added Hyman absolute beauty.
He signed Nuge to an absolute sweetheart deal.
He somehow found a way to keep Kane and ditch Kassian.
The oilers have been a perennial playoff team since he arrived .

The good far outweighs the bad IMO
