I just dont think 3 firsts is reasonable even with a 5 mil retention. Its one of the reasons why the trade is unlikely to get done. Guess we will see.
It's for literally 4 more seasons. If the Oilers are as good as we think they'll be after this deal, those are damned near 2nd round picks.

Totally fair value imo.

I think Sutter.
Even better, fire Tre and make Sutter Coach/GM. DO it you cow-cowards.

Yeah it makes no sense. Holloway, sure I get it, he is younger and would be playing mondo mins in the AHL on a scoring line. Holloway is young enough that he still has lots to learn in the AHL. I think he's been "fine" in the NHL, but the A might actually be the better place for him,

Vinny makes no sense at all, in any way whatsoever. Send one of the forward plugs down, like Shore, or whatever.
Vinny is sick, so...no harm.

Yeah but its also not the Oilers fault that SJ gave him that contract.

Getting 3+ first round picks just doesnt happen. Ottawa got a first + Norris for Karlsson in the first place. (which turned out bad because it ended up being Stutzle but I am sure when the trade was done they were expecting it to be in the 20-30 range).

I hope we get Karlsson but I have problems seeing how it gets done with his contract the way it is.

One of my coworkers who is a Flames fan wants them to drop into the bottom 10 so they have a Bedard lotto ticket. I hope they finish 21st so they could only go up as far as #2 overall.

This is a year where really, you don't want your rival getting a top 4 pick cause all four are pretty elite.

Fantilli would be a 1st overall pick most years.

Stop with the superhero movie crap and stay on topic :sarcasm:......so after the first three pages of the thread I had to drive 25 min last night to Arbys

I think team's have interest in Puljujarvi and do see value in him. That's why Holland isn't just going to give him away for nothing. Even if it's a 3rd or 4th round pick that's an assets that can put us ahead of another teams bid on a player.

I've given up on Karlsson for today...
I went to Arby's this morning myself....

Unreal. I just cant take it anymore…
I know the waiting is hard, but Holland has to activate Yamo, if he’s healthy and cleared medically the PA would have something to say (rightfully so) if they kept him out for cap purposes. Vinny is sick and could use a paper transaction day, and Holloway won’t hurt the team by going back to Bakersfield until Holland has this trade and Pulju situation figured out all while playing cap gymnastics.

If it is 3 1sts for Karlsson... let's say that's essentially the equivalent of giving up a future set of Holloway + Schaefer + Bourgault level of players.

Does adding Karlsson have a bigger impact than picking another Schaefer+Bourgault+Holloway in the draft over the next 3 years? Probably yes, because a new Schaefer/Bourgault/Holloway trio won't be contributing in any meaningful way for likely another 4-5 years from now... well beyond this current McDrai window.

I like Holloway but he's easily replaceable in the lineup at this point... and this is his draft +3 season. Even next year he probably won't be a critical piece of this team. Next year he might be as good as Yamamoto or Foegele are now... but that will be draft +4 years.

Point being... can't be waiting for a new set of prospects (that aren't even drafted yet) to percolate/develop forever while McDrai wither on the vine in what is likely their peak years (injuries are more and more of an issue as players reach their late 20's and early 30's as well). Leon turns 28 in October... not old by any stretch... but the years keep ticking on and bodies often develop more issues from injuries over time rather than less.

Even the boys at spittinchiclets are talking about EK to Edm, saying we need to go all in.

Are we just being trolled and being set up for ultimate disappointment?

It seems that way doesn’t it. “Let’s keep our fans sort of thinking something can happen so they’re entertained for at least a little bit”

It’s literally temporary. Shore is already down. VD is still sick and wouldn’t be playing today anyways. It’s clear they have a trade in the works but haven’t been able to pull the trigger yet.

If they're all future picks, I'd argue they're all likely to be Schaefer level prospects. Not even Holloway.

Personally I make that deal happen. My hope is that the only holdout would be Kenny knowing he has all the leverage and trying to knock a first off that deal.

It all depends if SJ is willing to drop that ridiculous asking price of theirs.

Also to Brad Holland yesterday talking about bigger moves being better in the summer because you don't want to change the good chemistry too much?

Kane and Kulak were pretty big adds last year mid season and it certainly didn't hurt anything. People add big rentals all the time and go on championship runs.

Karlsson isn't even just a rental. He's a 5 run rental. We should be taking advantage of the season he's on.

It's gotta happen and I think it will happen... it just makes too much sense for it not to go down... especially if McDrai and Karlsson themselves are all on fully on-board and pushing for it.
