Shootouts are a small part of the game. Jokinen brings plenty of small things to the table. Assuming the money/term is right he'll be a good add for sure.

It'd be nice to have another Jack of All Trades type (Letestu) on the team. The ability to have a respected, veteran fellow countryman should be huge for Puljujarvi.

Id be in for both jokinen or jagr. I think jokinen is a better option though. But sign either one and then sign iggy. Load up with depth and guys that can move around.

I agree.
There is an obvious theme here with the most recent adds. Versatility.

Jagr also hasn't shown to be very effective in the playoffs for some time. Maybe that's him turning off or down the intensity, or maybe it's just age and he's out of gas by that state. Either way, that limits his value to us for where we truly want to win: in the playoffs. Jokinen is over 10 years younger, and he's scored decently in the playoffs pretty recently: 4 points in 6 games two years ago (at age 32) and 10 points -- including 7 goals -- in 13 playoff games just four years ago (when he was 30). The way he plays, the difference between him now and at 30 shouldn't be much different, as he's been healthy during that time. He also just scored 60 points the year before last in the regular season, which has been close to Jagr point production highs the past 6 years, even when Jagr plays a full season. So I think Jokinen can bring more when it matters, and can likely put up just about as many points as Jagr would've if given the chance on a scoring line. But the beauty thing about him is that he brings value in many different places, including as a 3rd line center and be effective on PK, things that Jagr can not do. I think Jokinen is the better fit, and has more left in the tank to help us make a run over the next few years. I'll guess it's a 2.5-3 x 3 deal.

I'd do 2 years (the remaining duration of Puljujarvi's ELC) over 3 unless the AAV is worth it. That said I like what I've seen of the player and I feel that it'd go a long way to adding some scoring depth.

That was Chia's MO in Boston and Todd's in SJ, they are clearly on the same page when it comes to having versatile forwards. That may have played into the equation when we signed Russell as well since he can play both sides.

In Dallas a couple of years ago.

Thanks.

Jokinen at this point of his career is no more than a 3rd liner, PK, shootout specialist. Iginla is toast. If they do sign Jokinen, I think the line-up looks something like this:

Maroon-McDavid-Strome
Lucic-Draisaitl-Slepyshev
Jokinen-RNH-Kassian
Khaira-Letestu-Puljujaarvi
Pakarinen, Caggiula

I'd be shocked Jagr signs with us. Traveling, his lifestyle(warmer weather and big city) and the salary he wants.

For us, he might not be a great fit. We need speed/quickness, faceoff and penalty killing up front which isn't today's Jagr. Jokinen is a better fit for our needs.

And Jagr would want more money than Jokinen, probably looking for something like $2.5M - $3.5M? That might not work for our cap as it would put us too close to the limit leaving us with less flexibility.

Good with either, but Jagr is more likely to sign a 1 year deal. Plus it would be pretty cool to watch him play keep-away for more than a game or 2 per season. Downside is that one of these years he'll be completely done and watching a HOF player fail doesn't sound like fun.

Jokinen provides a great trio of C's, it will allow RNH to be second line C and let Draisaitl/Strome play the RW.

Just gotta hope somehow RNH improves on faceoffs.

Another thing interesting is Jokinen's arc with every team he's been on. He almost always starts hot, and cools off year to year.

Seems like a great candidate for a one year deal.

Im still hoping for Jagr, can see him wanting to go out winning a stanley cup. Be awesome if we get either one or both though.

Jokinen-RNH-Puljujarvi would be a decent enough 3rd line with Jokinen taking most of the draws.

Buying out Pouliot and replacing him with Jokinen makes a bit of sense.

Mentor for Pulju
Better defensively that Pou, not to mention no boneheaded penalties
Can take F/O, and you can pair him with Nuge effectively.

Yeah and Khaira cracks the lineup over Strome right?

Jokinen makes all kinds of sense, I'd love to see him signed for a year or two. He hangs around here during summertime but I haven't seen him this summer. Would be quite bad taste to ask about contract stuff anyway...
