The Oilers were 17 points out of a playoff spot. We are out of the bottom-5 this season if McDavid, RNH, and Klefbom have healthy seasons (70+ games) and if Eberle were playing at 100%. You really think that a healthy Oilers team minus Hall and add Lucic, Puljujarvi, Larsson, and Demers can't make a 17-point jump?

The Islanders made a 22 point jump from the draft lottery to a divisional playoff seeding two seasons ago- subsequent to acquiring Leddy, Boychuk, and Halak.

Yeah but they didn't trade away John Tavares to get it done.

Comparing a franchise centre to a...good winger? :handclap:

If Tavares is traded they now have centre depth of Grabovski and Nielsen at the most important position. If Edmonton trades Hall they have Lucic, Maroon, Pouliot, etc in the least important position.

Not really comparable...but nice try.

So, a player we might not have, and two players who have never broken 40 points.

And they play in the East as opposed to the West, where playoff dreams go to die.

People keep posting this like it's 2014, but the reality is that the West is now filled with a bunch of unbalanced teams. The traditional powerhouses are cap strapped and are seeing the "negative" cap effects of years of cumulative individual success.

This year's West playoff bracket was a bunch of overrated mediocre teams that played each other to boring 7 game series. Most of these teams would have lost to any of the Final Four in the East this year. The winner of the West folded like a house of cards once they faced an actual balanced team in the East.

The reality is you build a team with one major strength and decent goaltending and you have a chance in the West, IMO anyways.

Lucic put up 10 less points than Hall this year. Pouliot was on pace to score somewhere around 60. You NEED high end centremen to go far in this league. You don't need numerous high end wingers to go far.

See Pittsburgh. Especially when you have a McDavid, you do not need to pay for numerous skilled wingers. Eberle alone is enough.

Sounds like we would be the only suckers to pay Lucic rate, if we are unfortunate enough to sign him. 7x7 gag, 6x6 is still horrible. Give him to a Maroon free team. Its salt in the wound to end up with a contract like that after trading Hall. Chia is smitten, and I'm hoping he can still do the gm thing. Still bitter :( please rumour be false.

Injuries will happen again. Your planning for the perfect scenario.

rumoured 49 mill for Lucic says otherwise.

 brutal .."let's spend more to get less!"

come back to the shallow side.....nothing has happened yet on the lucic front.

rhetorical question; in your opinion, do we lose either way on the lucic front? (you answered yes)

Anyways, in what capacity would you "build around a player" that gave up on you?
