2021 NHL Draft: Flyers select Aleksei Kolosov 78th overall
Kolosov, who was passed over in last year’s draft, spent much of this season with Dinamo Minsk of the KHL. While his usage there was a bit limited, he posted solid results as a teenager playing in a professional league. He only
played in nine games, but he posted a .911 save percentage in those games.
Though not the biggest player in terms of what we normally see in goaltenders (Kolosov is listed at 6’1” and 187 pounds), his skillset is undeniably an intriguing one. Kolosov brings very good quickness, and also generally good positioning on top of that. He’s economic in his movements, angles well, and flexes quite solid rebound control. There’s a definite calmness to his play, both in his ability to maintain control of his movements when he does have to move quickly, but also in how he rarely seems to get rattled when the game may not be going his way.
Certainly there’s still a good bit of work that needs to be done to clean up and develop his game, but the Flyers seem willing to give him the time to develop, and are hoping to add a nice bit of organizational depth and further bolster their goaltender prospect pipeline.
