The issue with Nash is that if we say he's been ok, we're giving him a complete free pass. We acquired him to be a gamebreaker and a guy who can take over games. In Columbus everyone chalked up his subpar statistics to playing in Columbus, but frankly nothing has changed. Nash is playing like an adequate 2nd liner, and given his $7.8 million salary and the price paid for him, it simply isn't enough.

If I wanted a 2nd liner, I would have kept Dubinsky because Dubinsky plays with a lot more edge than Nash. Fact is that he needs to step it up, and win games for the team in the same manner that Lundqvist does.

Another issue is Nash makes the players around him worse at times with his poor decision making/holding on to the puck too long. If he isn't effective with his individual efforts, it will probably hinder his line.

Heck, Pouliot has been more dominant in the playoffs so far than Nash. If you took the jersey info off the two players, I'd assume Poo is the better player.

Well said! Great post.

If they finished off the Flyers sooner, the second round wouldn't have started until all the teams are set. They would have had a few extra days of rest before the second round schedule started.

True, but they'd still be facing this 3 in 4 nights nonsense.

And, even if they beat the Flyers in 6, it would still have been only 2 days rest before the start of this series. Only way would have been winning in 5, and while that was POSSIBLE, it certainly wasn't PROBABLE.

Does anyone have any data for how teams do in second games of back to back to use as a proxy for little rest? I want to know if this scheduling issue is real or a myth.

Is it perhaps time to split up the MSL-Step-Nash line? I think we have all had enough of their lack of production and overall laziness.

Put Nash on the fourth line. Maybe that would set a fire under his ass...

Hagelin-Stepan-St.Louis
Pouliot-Brassard-Zuccarello
Moore-Richards-Carcillo
Nash-Boyle-Dorsett

We really need Kreider back...
That would add some much needed speed on the wings...

They have not scored a goal in over 5 games. MSL is supposed to be this game changer but has not had a point in the last 4 games.

Also, giving Fleury a SO is not exactly a good thing, since it will boost his confidence.

Kreider is coming back soon right? So maybe it's time to put him in MSL place and move MSL down to the 3rd line with Richards and Hagelin.

I wish Nash was better right now, but for all the pounding he is taking here, it is MSL that is getting the free pass from the fans here. MSL has always been a far more productive player than Nash.

Until now.

Stepan doesn't spear Crosby in the balls or slew foot him. Dubi>>>>>>Stepan

For talk about how classy and selfless this league is there's an awful lot of hypocrisy when it comes to actual unclassy stuff like dirty ****. It's amazing how much hockey fans love to scream from the mountain tops about how classy the sport is and then a second later glorify dirty play as "intangibles" and "heart". I have a theory why but it would derail this thread a bit.

There's still absolutely no reason this game couldn't have been played this afternoon and the Chicago game played tonight.

Not sure if it played into it at all, but the Pittsburgh Marathon was today. Road closures all over town this morning / early afternoon.

I do really miss Dubinsky. I without a shadow of a doubt would take him in this series over Nash. His pure dislike for Crosby by itself would probably guarantee him contributing directly or indirectly to 2-3 goals for us...

Nash was bad tonight. Healthy scratch bad. I wouldn't be opposed to it if not for a period. A message needs to be sent. I'm done defending him.

That is reasonable. Don't worry though. If the game was at noon people would just complain about how coming off a 7 game series we were forced to start off the next series with 2 games in ~40 hours

And you know he's played a checking line role before for Team Canada.

I'd be like to him "If you can't contribute offensively, play your Team Canada role" and see if he reacts.

Now if we were playing the Columbus Blue Jackets, we know angry Nash would show up.

We need Angry Nash not Prozac Nash.

If Nash could look to one player to emulate (and I know this is doable because he is naturally a better player than him) its Neal. Nash is infinitely more talented than Neal, but Neal is playing like a big bully. If Nash played like that it would at least make life more difficult for Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh came out physical and we didn't wish to fight back.

It would help tremendously if we could win a faceoff when it counted. Did we win one clean faceoff on the power play?

It's been the same problem for years that nobody other than our 4th liners are good on faceoffs.

Dorsett is such a waste, guy takes penalties at the worst time, put in Miller to give us a bit more offense.

I don't really understand what the CBJ fans liked about this guy so much. He's your average 4th line winger who also happens to take tons of bad penalties. He's really not much of an agitator at all - certainly not even close to Avery in that or even Carcillo/Prust. He can chip in a goal here or there and skate ok but he really provides very little else. I'd see if we can get even a 7th for him. If not I'd be alright just sending him down next year and taking the 600k cap hit and using that extra 1M in the offseason to improve elsewhere/resign our guys (similar to Asham this year)

There hasn't been much to celebrate in Columbus for years. So he probably brought some energy and I wouldn't be surprised if some people misconstrued his stupidity for "passion" or something. When the Rangers sucked Rangers fans overrated anybody that gave a **** a little bit. They probably didn't even have great energy players that were better than him.

At this point I'd much rather buy Nash out than Richards. At least Richards is good once in awhile.
