Sadly, I agree.

Bummer because he looked better via the eye test at the end of the season, but last night he was directly responsible for at least one goal and indirectly led to a lot of pressure. Just a shame.

Argh, the more I look back on last night, the more frustrating it is. A fluky rainbow shot, Quick getting blasted by his own d-man, and a flutterball OT winner. If that's not fate on the Sharks' side, I don't know what is.

Funny enough our scoring is just fine.

The bold sums this up

If Kings trade Richards, it will be for another bad contract like Clarkson or draft picks. He won't get a premium for Richards with 5-6 more years left on that deal.

The lines are so messed up as well.

Brown is a natural RW.

Toffoli is a natural RW.

Pearson is a natural LW.

Nolan is a natural RW who has played Center in the past.

Sutter keeps moving guys to opposite wings, etc. So annoying.

I don't see Lombardi trading Richards, but at this point he's pretty much a 3rd line grinder. I would like to see this starting next year.

?? - Kopitar - Gaborik
?? - Carter - Toffoli
Pearson - Richards - Brown
King - Stoll - Lewis

Ex: Nolan

Probably the best C depth in the league if we roll the lines like that.

Problem is you can't fill those ?? when you're paying 11million to two guys on the 3rd line.

I just don't think you can build a complete lineup when the centers take up $22 million in cap space. You can't have 30% of your cap space on centers when you have massive holes on the back end and on the wing.

If Richards is back next year it's because they think he can return to second line form, and in that case Carter won't be playing center, they will probably try to build the second line around Richards and Carter again. If the Kings determine that Richards is a third or fourth line center he will be bought out. Lombardi is not going to pay his third and fourth line centers that much, especially since Stoll has been adequate in that third line role.

you would not just be trading him for draft picks it would be draft picks + cap space.
I see Richards for Gagner + something smaller being fair value. However I think DL keeps Richards and Brown to start the year hoping for a rebound. If it doesn't happen teams at the deadline will pay for either.

Regehr as a 3rd pairing guy for 1 more year at 3 million is fine. Micthell in that spot for possibly less would be better, but we'd need to find a taker for Regher, which may or may not be a challenge. Bumping Regehr down and letting Mitchell go is the far easier option, so I'd say its more likely.

There aren't a lot of impressive free agents out there that would help our defensive mobility. Meszaros perhaps? Trades will probably have to happen.

Stoll had a great game. Granted, he is on the downside of his career, he was throwing the body and can win face-offs....those are two things Richards' should be doing but isn't.

Stoll has 1 year left on his deal. He is the least of our concerns.

Brown and Richards' contracts are what haunt us.

Isn't Meszaros often injured, old and slow now?
That's basically Greene.

Just fate taking its pound of flesh for the no-show the Kings had in the first two games. "Oh yeah? You want to play like that in consecutive playoff games? Screw you."

If the Kings come out and earn a chance at a win on Thursday, I think a bounce or two will go their way. Everyone has to show up though.

Trading Richards wouldn't be about returning a premium, it would be about escaping a long term contract and acquiring cap space.

I agree that, if we were to go the route of trading Richards, Gagner would probably be a logical return.

Soo I've been thinking.. we only need to win 1 road game to force a game 7. I still believe in the Kings. We got dis guys.

Ha ha, the ultimate optimist. Makes me look like an absolute pessimist. I gotta love your spirit. We had this game except for a couple of lucky bounces. Then again, they shot the **** out of the third period. Where is our defense?

Anyway, I hope you are right. I haven't given up never will until its really over. Had fun last night at the game. Love playoff atmosphere. We just need to be more consistent.

Yeah, in Game 3 I thought we actually played well enough to win. We just didn't.

I will say, this is going to be one of the most important off-seasons in club history. The Kings have clearly reached the crossroads and Dean has a ton of decisions to make in which direction to go. If he decides to stay loyal to Richards and Brown and it blows up in his face the Kings days of contending are over because realistically this is the Kings only chance to unload either one of them, you guys who say give them one more chance do realize that if they flop next season there is no way anyone is touching either contract and the compliance buyout is gone.

I fully expect the Kings to reload, not rebuild because the core of the team is still good, but I expect s refresh here. I think if the Kings lose on Thursday it will be the last time we see Mitchell, Richards, Clifford and Greene in Kings sweaters, I think those four are a given. There will have to be tough decisions made on Brown, Williams (I expect both back) and some of the younger players, the Kings are going to be in desperate desperate need for a second pairing type defenseman and that means one of the younger players is going to be moved. And the Kings also have to decide how much of a financial commitment they make to Gaborik, if any.

Right now I think this is the lineup that you can project going into the summer

Gaborik - Kopitar - Williams
xx/Pearson - Carter - xx/Toffoli
King - Stoll - Brown
xxxx - Vey - Lewis

Muzzin - Doughty
Trade Target - Voynov
Regehr - Martinez

I think the trade target is going to cost the Kings one of Pearson or Toffoli, and whatever one is traded the Kings will fill the other line spot with a pretty high end UFA. If Pearson is moved it will be a LW if TT is moved it will be a rw.

I like this lineup, but I have serious reservations about Williams on first line, I think he could be next years Richards where the wheels just completely fall off. Now on second thought I am really considering whether they just part ways with Williams also. I don't know, I am happy I am not in Dean's shoes this summer, he has some huge decisions to make that will affect the team for years to come.

What about something along the lines of this...

Ehrhoff - Doughty
Martinez - Niskanen
Regehr - Voynov
Muzzin

Niskanen in the 4,250,000-4,500,000 range.

I like this, but instead of Regehr I would put McNabb in there. I'd be happy with that lineup.

Lets think of the positive things guys, likee Gaboriks sick goal. When was the last time we saw someone do that in a Kings uni?

That's the spirit -- and what exactly were both Sharks D doing on that play?

It looked like an offside soccer attack.

So I just asked a pred fan what they would want for Del Zotto's rights and the person said a 3 round pick.
I do that. He could be the LHD to play with drew

Wish I was as positive as most on here, but I'm a realist, and right now I don't see a comeback being probable at all. The only thing I can hope for is not being swept and to be honest, I felt last night was our best opportunity to get a win.

This offseason will be a major event for this franchise. Hopefully for better than worse. A retool will throw the Kings back into contender status, but complacency will keep them as a first round team.
