The funny/sad thing is that Dean has always been very conservative at the draft table and literally the one time he rolled the dice in round 1 he ended up taking Hickey over Alzner.

Every other first round pick he has made as Kings GM has been considered a pretty safe low upside pick.

This team used to play like they had a chip on their shoulder and wouldn't allow others to push them around. I don't see that attitude on the ice anymore.

Exactly. During the Cup Run, we ran around. Richards' leveled Burrows in the first round. King and Nolan fought Crombeen and Stewart in the St. Louis Series. Penner headlocked Vermette and Brown destroyed Rozival in the Phoenix series. In the finals, Nolan was laying everyone out, same with Martinez who had one of the biggest hits of the playoffs.

Where are those plays?

Now Brown, Torres, Thornton, Burns, and Desjardens are taking runs at Quick and Kopitar and no one is doing anything.

I would think about a voynov for Alzner deal.
Save $$ and moves a RHD for a LHD.

That would then leave Doughty as the only RHD on the roster. Suddenly it seems like a majority of Kings fans are underrating Voynov. Let's not forget the boat anchor he is stuck playing with. Regehr made Doughty look like a bum.

I didn't care much for passing on Alzner since many reports had him being a "finished product" and not developing much further from what he was. The player they should've selected was Jakub Voracek.

Most forget this is his FIRST full season in the NHL. He's had a rough season, but I wouldn't even consider trading him.

I think Voynov's regression was predictable. Just signed a big contract, hadn't really played a full NHL season yet, playing key minutes... He was due for some adversity. And as predictable as these current growing pains were, I think him bouncing back is just as predictable. Voynov's a keeper, you don't let go of a young top 4 d-man after one mediocre season.

The same caps that traded forseberg for erat lollll

I'm sure vey and second is very doable , also has good value.

I also love how physical Voynov has been in the playoffs. In fact, I'd say he's been the Kings' most physical defenseman in this series. He's taken on Thornton, he's dropped that neanderthal Brent Burns with a solid hit. He'll be just fine. Just get him a solid D-partner like he had in 2012 with a healthy Willie Mitchell.

Doughty needs a similar type of helping hand on his left side. A dman who can allow their partner to play their game. Not a hindrance who is prone to so many mistakes that Doughty and Voynov have to cover up for.

They should just take a trip down to the local Defenseman store and pick up a couple of top-4 D. I hear they're on sale.

not that I am underrated voynov. I just have a bias towards alzner.

What is somewhat lost with Brown's game is that his well-earned rep as a diver has finally caught up with him. Guy used to probably lead the league in calls drawn or was close to it but it seems like that number fell by 90% this season.

He used to score on the power play and he used to draw a lot of power plays. Now he is doing neither.

He'd start drawing calls if he never dove again.

Doughty started his career with Sean O'Donnell. Then he was paird with Mitchell, then Scuderi and now Muzzin. Seems like he played his hockey with OD and Scud's.

I think Quick is starting to become known as a hot head and as such is not getting calls say a carey price gets. case in point him and san Jose's brown this series

When your organization has zero defensive depth, drafting a forward at that position probably wasnt even thought of unless Kane was still available. But if you're going to go down that route, they should've drafted Couture not Voracek, as you suggested.

Oh definitely, if they were going to reach for Hickey at #4, then they definitely could have taken a bigger gamble and gone for a prospect who could be a potential elite forward, which is exactly what Voracek and Couture were touted as in their draft year.

The Sharks traded up to the #8 spot to draft Couture and they got one of the best players in that draft. I guess it worked out for the Kings in 2005 though when the Sharks passed on Kopitar to select Setoguchi.

Alzner is not even close to the player Voynov is. Pass. Voynov's cap hit ain't that bad and the dude has his best years ahead of him.
