I can only imagine the interview process between Michkov and Montreal. Apparently, it is pretty involved. They probably asked him culturally irrelevent questions that Michkov had no familiarity with like SAT's have been accused in the past of doing like "Do you like Soupe aux pois?"

I mean you want to find culture fits into your system and org but they overthought this one if you ask me....

It might be their undoing years from now like the Leclair and Desjardins trade....

Just to be devil's advocate for a second.

What if Michkov turns out to be Provorov Pride Night 2.0 but worse? My personal experience with Russians tends to be ... they are an interesting group of people.

You ain't kidding....I dated two of them and one of them was not exactly the most tolerant person when it came to diversity.

Dont care. Hes too good to care.

I think Michkov is a good kid though. He doesnt have that diva attitude Provorov did i just dont see it. You can see his real personality come out in the russian interviews. If he has views like that, he will keep them to himself like most people.

I wouldn't care, just like I didn't care about the Provy stuff and I thought it was blown out of proportion, but those are the times we live in. You can respect someone without agreeing with their opinions.

There is zero obligation to respect someone who shows no respect themselves.

You don’t pass on a talent like Michkov…. Period

You don’t win in this league without players of his caliber and without taking risks. This is exactly why this franchise has sucked for as long as it has.

The fact that he seemed to be so adamant about playing for the Flyers made what should’ve already been an easy decision even easier.

This is why you draft BPA. None of those guys have the superstar, game-breaking potential that Michkov has. Acquire the talent and worry about the fit later.
Oh ya I get it for sure it's just we have a shit load of RW and G prospects . I said I really like the pick and i'm glad he fell into our lap now lets hope luck breaks our way for a change .

Friedman says Michkov trying to get himself to a ‘place where hockey matters’ is ‘100% true.’ The first meeting was on Friday, the second meeting in Nashville was basically making him convince everyone that he was serious. He says Michkov saw the Flyers as a team with stable ownership that is committed to winning.

32 Thoughts

- Friedman calls back to how last week it was thought Michkov had preferred teams in mind. He says we now know that was 100% true. Michkov indicated he wanted to go to a market where the team mattered, the team was popular, and they had a chance to win.

- Friedman says he knows fans haven't been happy with ownership, but Michkov saw it as a stable ownership that spends money and is dedicated to winning.

- Flyers wondered "Is this too good to be true?" after the Voorhees meeting, so we scheduled a 2nd meeting in Nashville. People who attended the Nashville meeting, but not the Voorhees meeting, were convinced that Michkov was serious about Philadelphia.

- Friedman thinks we tried to trade up.

- Friedman invokes the "The Soviets are leaving the ice" story, and said he heard from people "Is Michkov aware of [that story?]" So Friedman asked someone who knows Michkov if he is aware, but they weren't sure if Michkov is aware and plans to check with him.

- Thinks we were surprised that nothing scared him. Not Philly, not Torts, not the rebuild.

- Philly has been disappointed with how much has leaked, but were happy to keep this under wraps and are excited about the fan response

Not crazy about the trying to trade up part, but without details it's hard to know what exactly to think. Does anyone know if Danny was asked what plan B was if Michkov was gone before pick 7?

That's what you care about? Who cares, really weird post. Most wouldn't give a sh*t if provy was a top 1-2 dman in the NHL. If he believes that, let him live his life how he wants.

I still can't believe this is real.
Same, guy has all the raw talent to be a top 3 player in the league, lets see what happens

Teams past on Michkov due to culture. People here wanted Provorov gone due to his cultural identity.

Seems like most people here connected the dots pretty easily. Michkov could be wildly different from Provorov but Russians are on average are vastly different people than North Americans.

I think Michkov is a fantastic pick and personally I don't care that much about what an individual thinks, they are free to choose whatever they want to believe.

I agree with that, I thought we were focusing in on the specific incident with Provy. With that post you have a fair point, yeah, I think from what everyone's saying about how bad he wants to win a cup and he chose Philly, we have at least a little comfort. I've watched a ton of Michkov, the dude is putting up 100 points if he comes to the NHL, way too talented.

I hope he keeps #39. One of my favorite non-flyers, Jeff Friesen, wore that number. Of course, I hope he's 10x the player Friesen was.
