- Friedman calls back to how last week it was thought Michkov had preferred teams in mind. He says we now know that was 100% true. Michkov indicated he wanted to go to a market where the team mattered, the team was popular, and they had a chance to win.

- Friedman says he knows fans haven't been happy with ownership, but Michkov saw it as a stable ownership that spends money and is dedicated to winning.

- Flyers wondered "Is this too good to be true?" after the Voorhees meeting, so we scheduled a 2nd meeting in Nashville. People who attended the Nashville meeting, but not the Voorhees meeting, were convinced that Michkov was serious about Philadelphia.

- Friedman thinks we tried to trade up.

- Friedman invokes the "The Soviets are leaving the ice" story, and said he heard from people "Is Michkov aware of [that story?]" So Friedman asked someone who knows Michkov if he is aware, but they weren't sure if Michkov is aware and plans to check with him.

- Thinks we were surprised that nothing scared him. Not Philly, not Torts, not the rebuild.

- Philly has been disappointed with how much has leaked, but were happy to keep this under wraps and are excited about the fan response
You can tell the part about Philly thinking it was all too good to be true is accurate because in the post draft interview Danny literally said “for whatever reason, he really wanted to come to Philadelphia” lol

I know people will compare him to Ovechkin for his whole career, but he really isnt Ovechkin. He is a really smart kid and sees the ice as a playground. His weakness is that he's too creative and too much of a perfectionist. This kid needs smart players with the ability for creative passing lanes and shooting lines. He's not the super mega guncannon of death that Ovi is, he's playing a video game and is trying to squeeze everything through the tightest margins possible. He doesn't work too hard physically for his goals he is just so efficient. I truly believe he will age superbly and with experience will continue to dramatically improve year to year even into his 30's.

Just needs people to match his pace/thinking. Would have been Giroux's BFF and lover.

Love the pick. Really surprised it shook out that way, but I'll take it.

It's the potential superstar-level talent we have not had or been able to acquire in forever.

I still won't believe it until he's actually here.

Facts. But I do think Michkov is a level about Giroux if he reaches his potential.
I'm not comparing the talent. But he needs a Center who can help him. Michkov will be Giroux/Voracek if he doesn't get help. His intellect is his strength and his weakness. If he played with C Giroux and say like Farabee on LW (not an elite 1st liner, just maybe passable) that you would suddenly see Farabee become a 50+ point guy in the first year. He's a smart guy. Even Frost could LW/C for him and succeed. Both are really smart guys and excellent passers but aren't finishers.

Eh, yes and no. I think he's a much better talent than Giroux as much as I like Giroux. Michkov will carry his line, he doesn't need an elite C to produce 90+ imo. Guys like that make everyone produce at high levels. IF he has an elite C with him he's putting up 120+ (assuming he develops correctly). Somewhat of a Kucherov type. That said, I agree, surrounding this man with talent is paramount. We have 3 years, and I do believe in Briere.

well if Giroux in his prime had michkov, I think G would have 100+ points most seasons and Michkov be in 120+ range. G was everything but a point machine. He had to carry bad defense and incompetent line mates when he wasnt playing with Voracek/Simmonds/Coots or whatever.

3:26 - Tripped, on his knees, casually sees 13 on the other end of the goal, quick precise pass to 13 who has the easy goal.
3:58 - cheats on a bad pass, takes advantage instantly. keep it low because he knows 22 is next to him. easy dunkaroo.
4:27 - TK is jealous
4:38 - the plan is in motion as soo as he sees 67 go for the puck to bring it back he sprints to the other side of the net. More experience will make him even quicker. You can see how slow he is here too. Would not fly in NHL at all.

Really needs to get faster. Smaller ice will compensate but he will have less space. He floats a lot and takes his time. If he gets snappier he will succeed. If he came to the flyers next season he would get bullied. KHL development is ideal for him.

Honestly, the goal at 4:27 is really f***ing impressive considering the distance from the net, the speed of the shot and the accuracy of the shot.

I like this one too, but for me it is more because of the perfect timing - he releases it right at the moment when the screen in front of the goalie doubles.

As a prospect, Michkov is tiers above Giroux in terms of talent. Fans are mistaken a mature, polished, and seasoned Giroux with a 17 year old kid. When Michkov is 22, chiseled, and polished, he's going to be a Maserati among the NHL elite. If the Flyers continue to build the right way, his legit upside is 70 goals, 60 assists, 130 points. He will score goals at a Brett Hull / Alex Ovechkin level most years.

Easy there.

Not sure Michkov will score 130 points, but he has a chance to become great goalscorer like Bure or even Ovi.

Watch him. This kid toys with teams and has a violent approach to scoring goals. If Matthews and Pastrnak can score 60, this kid can top off at 70 and will be in the 55-65 range any given year.

That's his upside. If anyone told us 5 years ago that McDavid's upside was 150 (when Crosby and them were scoring 120) we would have laughed. If the Flyers add some more elite pieces before Michkov arrives, he can absolutely flirt with 130 the way Kucherov does.

I don't think fans realize how magnificent of a prospect Michkov truly is. He's close to Bedard, whom many consider able to touch McDavid and his 150 point high water mark.

Hah, nice, I know this is the least on-topic thing ever, but is the guy wearing the Flyers Hockey Reebok hat from 2013 I have?

Anyway, stupid automerge. He will score goals "at the level of a guy who is currently catching up to Wayne Gretzky's goal scoring record"? Uhhhhhhh

Congrats on drafting Michkov. He's one of those genius players who thinks the game differently than everyone else, like Datsyuk did and Kucherov does. He is still young but if he reaches his potential he will not only be a great player but also a great artist.

Look I'm not gonna say no

Just started reading about Michkov's dad and the rumors that he was trying to get Michkov out of his KHL contract, left home saying that he'd be right back, then they find him dead after Michkov apparently received a mysterious call from someone on a device with bad reception somewhere...

crazy story

Other stories/articles say he died naturally and that it was confirmed multiple times.

Russian factor. For me its a no go.

Btw was he even there this week? Guy has personnel say and can't be bothered to show his face at the draft.

Michkov is the first step in acquiring elite game breakers. With every bone in my body I want to emphasize: they cannot consider things done on that front and slap the Blue Jackets Torts seal of approval. I'm not even sold on them having another true 1st line talent in the organization (besides TK, which might not be for long). The rest is still all complementary types, at best, defense and forward. Don't f*** up this gift. The irony of the anti-rebuild types saying "you can't win with 1 player, Buffalo, blah blah" doesn't escape me.

Did, uh, they leak that to Friedman?

The lane was tight too. I just laugh because for warmups TK does those shots and misses almost every time. Maybe Michkov can teach TK how to shoot if he's still around.
