I do think you need someone playing like a top 2-3 Forward in the world. There's just a little more play to it for Centers than Wingers.

not only do we have to bottom out but with the lottery we have to also get lucky. Only way

You can get a 1C outside of the top 3 (Couturier) or even outside of the lottery (Giroux), but that would require actually making smart upside picks instead of randomly requiring a D and two f***ing goalies.

You’re going to fail if you don’t even f***ing try.

The Flyers are still FAAAAAR from a smart team and this “rebuild” isn’t going to go well if they don’t get some insane luck.

I have read / heard in a couple of places that he’s played both sides in the KHL, so I don’t believe he’s exclusively a RW - though it may be favored / more comfortable.

Tbf, 3 years is an eternity in a GMs tenure. If you're Montreal and you believe you're not far away from competing again or if you're Arizona and you need every help you can get now, do you really draft the guy who won't be available until 2026 with your top 6 pick?
I think for us it was just great timing that we just entered our rebuild and missing our top prospect for 3 years won't be that big of a deal.

Other than the Bonk pick, I don’t think there were any egregious picks. Multiple swings for upside, including the 2 goalies. I think it’s too early to jump to any conclusions in terms of the new regimes draft philosophy. Next year is when I think we’ll have a real good understanding in that regard since they already have 2 picks in each the first and second, with hopefully at least a few more to come before draft day.

The two goalies are the biggest problem.

Better prospects were available, who are also bigger organizational needs.

Their other picks aside, this still feels surreal. We finally got that guy, and also the guy I was hoping would miraculously be available. Lindros would be the biggest thing in my lifetime, but I barely kept track of hockey back then. This is hands down the most exciting thing that's happened with this org since I started following them. And I love the timeline. We get prime years for cheap, and hopefully the team looks much different by that point.

You know in the next year or two they are gonna acquire some russian vet to mentor him.
 
What's Medvedev up to these days? The correct move, though, would be to bring back Pimpsauce to serve as the new Nic D, 4th line, doesn't really do anything but great in the room guy.
