He'll have nothing left to prove in the NCAA. Too good for Hartford. He'll be playing at 185 if he's 178 now. Send him to Barb Underhill's summer camp and let him shine.
If he's 185 and too good for hartford, he'll get called up sooner than later. it's not just about what's left to prove. there's things to learn in the AHL even for a guy as skilled as him. maybe especially for a guy as skilled as him.

fwiw i think he *will* get a spot on the rangers out of camp, i just think he shouldn't automatically.

That was sneaky how he lost his check and the stick skills and patience to outwait the goalie. He senses when there is pressure on him and when there isn't and when he has time he uses it to advantage. It's all hockey IQ.

If he signs he will need to prove it in training camp like anyone else but I'd bet on his being ready for the NHL right off.

take another year. BC or hartford, doesn't matter. but take the time.
We’ll see. He should definitely turn pro, if he’s not ready for the NHL, AHL is fine. But shifty smart players like him tend to adapt way earlier in the bigs than guys who rely on physicality, driving to the net, board work, etc.

caveat here for me is that yes shifty smart skilled players can adjust to the NHL game quickly IF they have ++ skating. Cromulent though Perreault might be in this regard, he's no Quinn Hughes. It will be tough for him to find the kind of space he's used to.

Secondly, the reason a lot of young skilled star prospects appear to flourish early in their careers is because their deployment is conducive to point production - top line/PP1 minutes, opportunities to play with the teams other most skilled guys, etc.

As we've seen with Laf and Kakko, those opportunities are far from a given on this team. This isn't a rebuilding squad. There will be an expectation of at minimum below-average defensive play. We already have 1 line that gives up almost as much as it produces.

in theory, an AHL stint would cement these expectations and integrate GP to the speed and physicality of the game as it's played by men earning their keep, while also giving him the place to be Top Dawg and build crucial confidence.

Or, y'know, he comes in like fox and wins ROY with a 19-48-67 season.

If we're looking for a guy who could be the go to guy on a second power play unit right now Gabriel could be it. Some guys the play goes through for a goal to be scored. Panarin and Fox are those kinds of players. They don't necessarily get the goal but it's stuff they do to get us a goal. They're catalysts. Perreault's that way too. And like Fox and even Panarin to a degree it's not because of their physicality and they might even have less than ideal speed like Fox does. They have a knack to make things happen though.

A lot of what Perreault does reminds of Panarin. The quick stick lift to steal the puck....the no look tape to tape passes to not just a good option but the best option. It's like they have a panoramic view of the ice surface at all times....cannot only see all the players on both sides all the time but understand what those players have in their heads to do and also have an innate sense of timing and placement and the hand and stick skills along with a killer instinct to make things happen.

I want what I want
Talking about next season for Gabe. One thing is, Gabe is no shrinking violet and he doesn't seem like a guy that would be intimidated by his first pro camp. On top, preseason game action is tailor made for him and I wouldn't be surprised at all if he turns some heads in the games he plays. It both excites and worries me.

Yeah no one is making their decision based on the words of Barclay Goodrow and Jacob Trouba.

ELC kids want to get their clocks ticking asap so they can grab a bag as soon as possible. If you want to cook up conspiracy theories, it’s make more sense to point to the way Laf and Kakko have been used.

So recently they moved Leonard off the line with Perreault and over the last 3 games:

Perreault: 4 points
Leonard: 0 Points

Seems like Leonard really relies on Perreault for his production, unlike Perreault who creates his own.

Tomorrow is the last game before the players break for the WJC.

Gabe is a reminder that there are still bright spots within this organization as bad as things may seem right now. It just seems to take forever to make the leap from being drafted to playing in the NHL (which is normal).
