Yeah which makes me worried he'll have a hard time translating. He's tiny.

We're so loaded at wing we should let him marinate in college and/or AHL for a couple years anyway.
He’s tiny in a very nhl projectable way.
He’s got a frame that will easily add muscle mass, and he’s not 5’6.
He’s said his plan was 2 years in college so that’s two full seasons to physically develop. Sounds perfect

He's really not that tiny. And he's literally had no problem adjusting to the NCAA level with grown ass man. It's not like he's playing in juniors. He'll get bigger as well, he put on quite a bit of muscle in the last summer and i'm sure that has continued this year.

he's tiny in that he's a twig.

Even compared to other college players he stands out as being especially small and frail.

Yeah he's not Zucc-short but Zucc is stocky af.

I'm not worried long term, i'm sure he'll fill out.

But i'm in no rush to get him to the big club, especially since like i said we have waaaaay too many wingers as it is, both in the NHL and AHL

Definitely think it would be a mistake to rush him. Another year at the NCAA level would do him well.

I mean he’s listed at 165. That’s pretty damn tiny. He would certainly benefit from another year of physical development IMO.

As much as he is not a product of his linemates, it’s also hard to say they are a product of him. Pretty uncharted territory with this line coming up from the NTDP to the NCAA. A year where he is forced to be more of “the guy” and generate offense with players he is less comfortable with would do him well.

It isn't super common for 17-18 year olds to put up 50+ points in the NCAA. That said, BC has always been a massive developmental program, and they aren't afraid to play their young guys a lot.

It's pretty rare, and for a 17-18 year old to put up 60+ points is almost unheard of, only one player that age has done that over the last 9 years. He's almost certain to hit over 60 points.

Yup, I was putting this up as a hypothetical when Perreault was just about halfway through his season to date. Now that he’s obliterated the highest levels of college golf and an excellent performance against the very best peers in the world, I truly believe AHL has to be it for him next season. Same factors you mentioned he’d have a full season of college hockey to improve physically plus the summer offseason training ahead. Hockey wise he’s definitely ready for the next level and the only concern on the other side of the scale should be if there’s a significant risk of injuries with the move at his age and complexion. That’s it.

is he injured? someone said in his thread on the prospect board he might not play tonight

Got up a bit slow after the penalty he drew yesterday but even if he doesn't play tonight what ever it was that is keeping him out obviously isnt that big of a deal because he played the rest of the game.

Edit: Officially out for tonight. Cutter is taking his spot.

Confirmed out tonight. Doesn't seem like anything serious, just holding him out since it's such a meaningless game vs a bad team.

With that said, I hope BC loses tonight and the rest of the line can't get a point :dd:

He was compared to Jake Guentzel at the draft and since. Guentzel played 3 years at Omaha and then went pro at the end of the season for the AHL playoffs. He then played half a season in AHL before being called up. I wouldn't be surprised if Perreault played next year at BC and then follows a similar path.

So if Gabe takes a step back next year because his linemates are gone but still produces well will we overreact?

Absolutely is going to happen, book it. Gabe is supremely skilled but so are his linemates and playing with Gauthier and Powell to round out PP1. They all benefit from each other, and it leads to the unprecedented situation of two freshmen leading the nation in scoring this late in the season. Good news is Hagens is coming in next year (possible 1OA 2025 draft pick) so he'll still have linemates to play off of. Still, production is never linear, even for elite prospects and elite NHL players alike. So prepare for some wild ass overreactions and bad takes on GP.

Smith just tied Gabo in points. Only way I guess he could reach him is when Gabe doesnt play ;)
Your hate boner for Smith is funny. Sad but funny :D

Which is why you don't rush him. Let him stay another two to..."gasp" three years and get man strength.

I know Edstrom and Perrault have nothing in common as players, but you see that Edstrom is much more physically mature now than when we saw him in camp a few years ago.

The way I see the prospects' moves to Hartford (Assuming they get offered an ELC):

2024: Noah Laba, Bryce McConnell-Barker, Vittorio Mancini, Dylan Roobroeck
2025: Gabriel Perreault, Jaroslav Chmelař, Kalle Väisänen*, Hank Kempf
2026: Drew Fortescue, Hugo Ollas, Brody Lamb,
2027: Ty Hericks, Rasmus Larsson

*Won't be AHL eligible for his first ELC year if he's under 22

I don't see them signing Maxim Barbashev, Zakary Karpa or Oliver Tärnström

His size would worry me more if he were strictly a perimeter creator. He isn't, a good chunk of his game actually revolves around getting inside to the more dangerous areas or drawing bodies to him to open up lanes. That will play at any level.

Is he better with space? Yeah, him and every other player ever.

He can't hop in at 165 (Assuming this is where he actually is. He might be heavier, but hell he may even be lighter. He should go back for his Sophomore season) but he's not going to need 3-4 years either. He's 18 and has a full summer ahead of him to train and will likely have 2 full ones before he even steps on the ice as a pro. No reason not to expect him to grow into his body and add another 10+ lbs by then.

Why Chmelar a year behind Laba?
