Regardless of how much stock you put into a list made by Button, you can’t be anything but happy that the Rangers got a consensus top 10 prospect (in combined draft classes) with the 23OA one year after making the ECF.
Lundkvist trade was big, and aside from the decision that had up give up our lesser first it was a very good clause for us to be able to retain the better of our 1st round picks.

Gabe is not shy about going to the net. Great to see. Can’t wait till he physically fills out. Scary thing that he has so much more runway for physical development than any prospects close to his level.

I'm eager to see how he adjusts to a faster paced league. Best case scenario I was thinking when he was picked was two seasons of NCAA, one season of AHL, then NHL. Maybe he outpaces that hope.

But the book is very similar to what people were saying about Jeff Skinner all those years back: whether his playstyle will translate when he has to do everything at 20% faster pace.

I think he'd go top 10 already in a re-draft even with those reservations, but I'm hesitant to just assume the kid is going to be a 100+ point superstar.

We can’t assume, but we have real cause for hope.
This isnt a mirage. Kid is REALLY that good.
The pre draft concerns were his speed (which has already improved and was overblown to begin with), his size (he’s an immature 5’11” 165lbs according to BC, Id say he’s 6’ 180-5 as a full grown man), and that he was a passenger on that line (which has been shown to be BS). His rankings now are affected as much by that he fell to 23 in the draft than anything else.
I'm not saying he’s a sure star, it’s a crapshoot, but I think his chances are as good as anyone from that draft not named Bedard or maybe Michkov.

Feelin' good on a Wednesday
GP, Othmann, Berard are all good offensive prospects that can help keep this window open. When did the Rangers become such a damn good hockey organization rather than the shitshow clownshow circus bigtop I grew up with???
Don't wanna be Debbie Downer but I'll believe it when these guys make the big club & aren't neutered immediately.

There shouldn't be a rush. At the absolute earliest would be his age 20 season but age 21 make the most sense. Let him cook and develop.

IMO stylistically, guys like Panarin and Kucherov are loose matches.. Kucherov made his debut at 20 but excelled the following season at 21. Obviously, not a 1:1 player and the league was different back then.

He can refine his strength and skating over the next 2 years. It’s the best for everyone

I know this sounds crazy, but if these guys come up and are on PP2 or not at all and on the 3d line then I'd be happy. This means that the roster at that time is strong enough and producing at such high level that the team doesn't need a 20 year old savior. KK's skill set is a weird one but certainly Laf is now driving a lot of the Rangers offensive plays as a 22 year old. I'd love to see these guys in that position because that means the team is doing really well as a whole and didn't have to rely on a rookie to provide primary scoring.

I know it's hard to compare but do you guys think he has a higher ceiling than Laf? Laf looks like a monster this year but doesn't finish as well as we'd like.

Laf probably would have dominated the shit out of college in his D+1. Kakko would have too.

Gabe is a blue chip prospect which is great but we have to not get carried away with his numbers.
